Looking for suggestions. Here is what I am encountering. I am using 8mm Oplux.

The Ropeman 2 is out of the question, just bought it and it is difficult to adjust / too noisy as well - it's for sale for cheap in classifieds if you want it.

I tried a prussik with a tender as well, the prussik is cinching down really tightly and grabbing so well that it is difficult to break loose with the tender unless I loosen the knot first (this is not the goal).

I previously had a Schwabisch Hitch on it which worked pretty well but I pre-ordered it on the rope and carabiner since I was not comfortable tying that set up. The problem was that the way it came, the ends attaching to carabiner were too long so the tenders did not function well with it (too much slack to pull with the tag-end to reach the knot with the tender).

So, my questions are:

- Is there a certain size / type of rope that I should be using for the prussik on my 8mm rope that will make it less difficult to adjust with a tender but still safe from slipping?

-Should I try a Kong Duck, is it that much better than Ropeman 2?

-Do I go back to the Schwabisch Hitch set up? Is there a rope / hitch / biner combo out there that works great and where do I get it?

Thanks for reading and your suggestions!

I have used 5.5 mm accessory cord (2800#) and 6 mm Sterling TRC for connecting to my tether on both Oplus 8mm and Canyon 9mm with good results. I found the Michoacan hitch bites well and releases easily with a tender. It is an easy hitch to tie. I can even break this under load if I need to make an adjustment while on sticking. I use and ATC to rappel then the hitch becomes my backup below the ATC. I only weigh 160# so that may be a factor.

OP, Brocky has a thread on here about a hitch he uses. Sticht Hitch?.. Anyway, I followed his instructions. It works perfectly. Chime in here if you want Brocky.

Glad to hear it works for you, it can be as simple as 4 1/2-5’ of cord and a somewhat circular object, even that lock you can’t find the key.

Or can be made to tend with less effort.

You may want to evaluate the CT Roll N Lock. It works well on 8mm cord like Oplux and Resc Tech. It is mechanical and can make noise, but you can remedy that with felt tape. Lots of testing results on YouTube that are impressive. I have been using it over the Ropeman. Although I do like the Ropeman 1 for larger ropes.

It works perfectly. I found a ring of a smaller diameter at HD and then took a 3/4 black pipe nipple and cut it down. It works real well. Thanks again.

The thinner diameter rings work, but the larger ones run smoother across the rope. Wesspur has ISC rings, both aluminum and steel, the cheapest I’ve seen.

Reporting back that the Schwabisch with sewn eyes from Cruzr is working excellent!

Thanks, everyone, for your input. Looks like I have a lot of options to continue to consider as I fine tune.

Are you using a tender with the schwabisch?

I have 3 and all work about the same. I have an amsteel continuous loop, a keychain tender from EWO, and another coyote brown tender from EWO with a D ring on each side of webbing.
