Tethrd Gen 3 sticks……. Foot room discussion only.

I got a set of Gen 3 sticks and tried them last weekend with size 13 boots the foot room was no problem at all, if anything I'd say it's better since the stand off and step are 1 piece it's like a little platform.

I've only climbed a few sticks up with my new one sticks. I wear a 12 wide in most boots.

No issues. Just duck foot it or put the foot half on, lean back into the lineman's, and plenty of room. I'm not on the stick very long.

I climb with the tether attached also, so if I was ever on a stick for too long, I can always make the tether extra tight and sit into the saddle.

Seems like climbing on a tether lends to a more vertical orientation than climbing with a linesman's belt. That's probably a good thing, as it weights the stick in the direction of intended stress.

Do you do anything special to manage tether slack while climbing?

I probably misled you. I climb primarily with the lineman's lanyard but have the tether in play as a backup. Also, I climb a lot of trees with branches and having both on the tree makes it super easy to go around the branches while staying connected with at least one thing.

I use a distel hitch and tender with the tether. I find a tether length that has minimal slack when slid as far up as I can comfortably reach. The tether is almost tight but not tight or it will interfere with movement with my linemans. I tend the linemans more. Each step up while leaning back into the lineman's introduces some tether slack. Right after my step, I slide the tether up to remove the slack. If I do everything as normal, I tend the tether very little while climbing. I use a dynamic rope for my tether with a sewn eye and the sewn eye is attached to a stainless delta screw link to assist going around branches.

But the tether is always there and I can tighten it and sit into the saddle whenever it seems like the thing to do.

I only have 4 other brand sticks to compare with but the Gen3 sticks are my favorite. I should also note I'm a size 10 boot when climbing. Late season I go to size 12 and stay on the ground. I love the weight and attachment method of these sticks. I am sure personal preference has a lot to do with everyone's choice of all equipment.
