Yes, to keep it from moving.

My RC cars used to have a small screw on the end of the a arm for the hinge pins capturing them with head of screw so they didn’t back out. Use that on one side with a tapered drift pin might work pretty decent.

Or get a long rivet and run it all the way through the pin and rivet it.
 
I work for a company that supplies a bunch of automotive adhesive. Some of the structural adhesives used on cars are designed to allow some degree of failure during impacts. This helps dissipate crash forces. I can’t help but wonder what company’s adhesive they used.

I also know there are weld adhesive that do not give out. Granted, automobile accidents are a much greater force than humans climbing. They should have chosen one of those. The titanium to aluminum bond can be problematic for sure, but there are adhesive used for steel and aluminum parts.
 
I'm sorry, but the glue breaking isn't acceptable to me. Even if it is safe, that slight wiggle would drive my ocd insane
Dude, I have my own complaints about the sticks, but you are all over the place with this thread. If you feel so endangered, you really do need to return them now. This is not good for your mental health.

I too have the one sticks and experienced a glue failure on one of my three steps. I emailed Tether and received the following:

The ONE Stick steps are actually held on by a roll pin. The glue on the step is to keep it more secure. If the glue bond does pop and fail there is no safety concern since the roll pin is what is really holding the step on. There is a 1 year manufacturer warranty on any of our products. So if something does break outside of a 30 period then it will still be covered by the manufacturer warranty. The 30 day period is if customers want to return for a refund because they don't like it or want to exchange the item.

I then asked what that little tiny roll pin that was holding my life was rated for and was told 300 pounds WITHOUT the glue. Overall I like the sticks and plan to keep for now. Even tho the glue failed the movement in the step is barely noticeable. Love how light they are.

I'm no roll pin expert, so if I'm wrong, someone please disabuse me of any disinformation.


But this pin has a stated double shear strength of 27,100 lbs. Granted, double shear is more than just breaking strength per se, but why couldn't Tethrd find a stronger pin?

Not intended to be a rhetorical question. I'm curious as to whether I'm interpreting that double shear strength correctly and, if not, whether there are actually roll pins with > 300lb breaking strength out there.

It would be interesting to see what happens when a roll pin works it's way free on one side of a stick with failed glue.

The standoffs encircle the stick, so, it's a bit different system than others. Does the roll pin shear? Does the force elongate the hole in the titanium and the pin back out?

Those are two likely possibilities. I would say the roll pin wearing the hole would happen first. Then it’s a matter of the roll pin not shearing or the force on the circular piece of the step not shearing.
