I just pulled the trigger on my first saddle setup (tethrd phantom) minus a platform- I’m 6’5 and 235lbs... I’m hung up on which platform I should get and the two I have in mind are the predator xl or trophyline mission? Any thoughts/suggestions on either?

Thanks in advance

Do you mean which platform to get? I am the exact same size as you and wear a size 14W boot. I run the Trophy line Mission platform and it is my first platform I have owned. I love it, but you may like a smaller one that gives you more storage options like a certain bag for it to fit in, etc. If you are just starting out, go for the larger one first and work down in size as you get everything else more dialed in and start to feel out what you like and do not like.

I have the Trophyline Mission and it is solid. I'm 6'0" 250 lbs and once locked on, it doesn't move. As mentioned earlier, you may also want to look at Trophyline's new EDP platform. Same concept as the Mission only smaller in size.

Never tried the predator XL, but the mission is the one I'll be using this season. Plenty of room to move around and feel comfortable, very solid once set to the tree.

I have the predator platform and it is nice but if I had the bigger option like the mission back then, I would have gotten the mission. I’m 6’3” and weigh 220 with a size 13 W. On straight trees my predator is great, but if the tree leans or curves slightly towards me, it honestly isn’t enough real estate to stand up straight to remove pressure so you can make your adjustments. So personally I’d go with the mission

I have a Mission and standard predator. I like both. Size 12. I have an eassier time locking in the mission over the predator. But the mission is more to carry. I use it mostly on my short walks on private. Public I was packing my predator. I like the mission. But I am a leaner and if I hang my heels off, it really sets me away from the tree. If I could cut 2" off the depth it would be perfect. I love the width. This summer I am going to spend a little time trying the predator with a few steps on the side.
I don't think you will be disappointed either way. Just think about how your gonna pack it.

I have both, like the mission better. Waiting for the EDP.

Tried the 2 side by side, kept the mission and sold the XL the next day. 6'3, 250 lbs, size 14/15 boots. The XL was ok, but the mission is awesome! I just attach it to whichever pack with straps. My go to run and gun pack is a eberlestock dagger, you don't get much smaller than that. The mission is not as wide as my shoulders, so no issues with branches like a climber. I have never understood guys not being able to use certain packs with certain platforms. Yes it is American made, but I have never understood sacrificing function or comfort to just buy American.

I ended up buying an Easton baseball equipment back pack. It has an upper and lower zip pocket so you can load ropes and straps in the bottom and keep jackets and snacks in the top. That way I don’t have to pull everything out fumbling for gear. The side pockets are made as bat carriers which hold snake guards or large water bottles perfectly. The back has a helmet/base carrier which is perfect size for strapping a platform in. It came in an olive drab-ish color with some old traditional camo coloring. I’ve seen and used many many packs ranging from $39 Walmart ones to $89 field and stream and even tried out the new one from Trophyline but at the end of the day, for $79 that Easton back pack is the single best pack for saddle hunting I’ve ever used. The mission fits nicely in that outer helmet compartment as well.

I like the bat bag idea. I use a golf bag for my surf fishing gear. Has tubes to put all the rods and sand spikes. Side pockets for gear. It stands up on it's own. Works a lot better than pulling a cart through the sand.

Most guys laugh when I say I bought a baseball pack for all my gear but man it has tons of space/compartments and even features a strap with a hook so you can hang the pack on a gear hook or hanger. It isn’t near as big or heavy as it appears in the adds. Honestly it was about the same size as my old field and stream hunting pack but way better as far as functionality- what good is gear that looks cool but isn’t really that functional?

It is almost funny because when I started DIY’ing saddles 4 years ago, everything in every place I went, I’d look to see if I could somehow improve my setups not just for shaving weight like some, but for comfort and functionality. What good is being super light weight if the stuff is breaking or you aren’t able to stay comfy? I mean my whole set up weighs less than 15lbs including my pack, platform, saddle, climbing method and bow. Could I get lighter? Sure but my old hang on stand weighed nearly that on its on and I still had to carry all that other stuff too. So my goal is to be safe first, comfortable comes in at a very close number 2, function (ease of use of the gear) is number 3 (it’s pretty much a tie with number 2) and weight is my last consideration. I’m known the kayak into places and have even walked as many as 12 miles in a day round trip for a hunt. But the day I can no longer carry 15lbs of total weight is the day I can no longer drag a deer or pig out of the woods anyway. In other words that will be the day I give up hunting and fishing

My buddy thinks I need a new truck, I like my old truck and think it’s funny it drives him nuts that I could snap my fingers and have a new one tomorrow but won’t do it, I tell him it’s not the truck the horns are in the back of...... but the size of the horns in the back of the truck. LOL

I still regularly drive my 1982 Ford F-150. It has the 300 in line 6 and a three on the tree. An 8ft bed. I can’t kill it, truth is, it’ll probably be my 9year old sons first vehicle but I’m totally with you. If it ain’t broke you don’t fix it. PS bucks and pigs fit nicely in the 8ft beds

I like the Mission platform. It's rock solid and very well made and you won't go wrong with the Mission.

I also wear big boy boots. Size 13W for plainclothes/early season boots and 14W for late season/bulky socks. I have ran the predator for 3 seasons now with no issues in regards to foot room or comfort. This year i'll be running the predator XL. I know it's not clear from Tethrd's website, but both the predator and predator XL are made in USA (Minnesota I believe - I asked).

I also had a chance to play with a trophyline mission and it's also a great platform, though slightly heavier than the predator XL.

You really can't go wrong with either platform! Good luck with your decision.
