That’s an awesome story I get all worked up telling my story too! It makes every second in the stand with my bow worth every second! I had been hunting my buck for 3 days opening day actually came in on my birthday that year I had him on my camera for over a week and was watching him come in earlier and earlier every night I hunted that Saturday missed Sunday due to a family event climbed in on Monday and sat forever that evening it was getting dark and had not even seen a doe so right at last light I called it safe climbed down and went in, Tuesday on lunch I ran home checked my camera and was kicking myself he literally walked in 5 min after I climbed down not even sure if it would have been enough light to have gotten an ethical shot off but he was definitely there! My husband was supposed to hunt that night and I texted him with this huge spill on how I just had this great feeling about tonight let me hunt and he could go out the next night he was like deal! Got off work climbed in my tree at about 5 I’m hunting about 50 yards from my back deck in our woods, and had a couple of does and a small 4 point come in and hang out for a while they left the 4 point came back and started watching behind him and he moved around my tree and I heard something to the left of me a few min later there he was coming out of the brush rubbing on everything taking his time I was pep talkin in the tree trying to keep it together I have had plenty of gun hunts but u put a bow in your hand total different ball game! I had him at 11 yards the 4 point was on my right shoulder staring down my 8 and I just knew he was gonna bust me! My 8 was perfectly broad side better than any 3D target! I finally got my crap pulled together got my bow drawn and it was all slow motion I watched my arrow hit and his skin ripple and he kicked ran in my yard my dog barked and he immediately turned 180 and face planted about 20 yards from me back in my woods! I collapsed on my seat and thought what in the world just happened that was the coolest moment ever! Ended up finding him it was so dark no cameras anywhere so my pics I got to take with him was my work clothes on lunch the next day!The instance I am talking about...I literally thought I was going to fall out of the tree (hanging by harness of course, lol). I was so excited I couldn’t think, so I wrapped my arms around the tree. Lol
The buck I had shot was on public land.....he was paralleling my stand about 100 yards down the hill. I barely saw him. He looked like solid 125” deer. I reach for my grunt call and it falls to the ground. All I had left was my can call. I hit it 3 times, he stops but never looks my direction. I know he heard it. He makes a car hood size scrape, and then pees on his gland on his hind legs (so cool to watch)! He continues on away from me. I panic and hit the can again (now or never right). He turns down the hill (away) and then continues 270 degree back exactly in my direction...walks 120 yards on a string and stops at 31 yards. Slight quartering to me...I released a 150 grain werewolf right through his shoulder, it passes through. He ran back to the scrap and got the wobbly legs going on...I’m losing it now! Lol...he falls and I am tore up. He turned out to be 150” and about 350#. (We weighed him field dressed at 275# and he wasn’t completely off the ground, he was very long! I miss judge his score due to his incredible size! this happened 9 years ago, I will never forget a detail!
Sorry to get off topic! But this is why I bow hunt!
