The main bows get all the glory…. But what is the bow your take with you all the time to back it up. You shoot it well, and depend on it when it all goes to $h1t. Post em up. Give it up for the dependable second string. Mine is a flatline Cardiac arrest. 43lbs @ 28”. Easily the most beautiful bow I have and the quietest. RD longbow that is 66” long. Red cedar limbs that go between red and yellow and the most beautiful piece of bubinga for the riser with a maple pinstripe and a multi wood inlay. EFA Cherokee quiver. Still working on the arrow setup for the year.

Can I still play even though I DON’T always have it with me? It’s a 2019 Athens Archery Ridge 32. I WISH I would have had it with me this morning when I was on the first day of a 3 day hunt…
And dropped my HCA Mini out of the tree and broke it.

Edit
Sorry I didn’t notice this was the Trad forum. Apologies

Hahaha yes the trad form snags another compounder looking for stimulating conversation!. But you highlight the reason we have a backup. So bravo! You are always welcome to come towards the light. Welcome!

Just spare limbs for my Allegheny Mountain Recurve, but I seldom take them with me unless I going a looong way from home.
The only thing that could really screw me is if the handle broke somehow but I don't believe that's very likely. If the handle DID break, then my backup would be my Brackenbury recurve. My backup to my backup would be my ~1958 Bear Kodiak Special.

One of the nice things about trad is the need for a backup bow is pretty unlikely. I've dropped recurves from 20 feet a few times and Ive never broken or damaged anything. I killed a nice buck a couple hours after my bow took a 20 foot swan dive when the small branch that the bow hung from broke.
I take a spare string on every hunt, and I have back up bows at home, but on hunts within a 100 miles of home, I don't actually take a spare with me.
Knock on wood...I never broke a trad bow.
Now, if I hunted with all the high tech bells and whistles.........

See... if you shot a recurve it wouldn't have broke when you dropped it out of the tree. :)

My backup this year would be a '67 Shakespeare Super Necedah that I bought off of @ShooterMike last year. I haven't got an arrow set up for it yet but, it's a sweet shooting little 54" bow that handles my 29" draw length just fine. I might switch to it if I kill a deer with my #1 bow early. I'm out of town this weekend but will post pics when I return.

Pictures?

Here you go...

Top bow...Allegheny Mountain Recurve, 58", 51#@26";
Spare limbs are 60", 55#@28"

Next bow is a Brackenbury Drifter 64", 51#@27", Prairie Rattlesnake backing that I put on it;
Spare limbs are 64", 62# (too heavy!)@ 27#

bottom bow is my hand-me-down Bear Kodiak Special...circa late 1950s. 66", 48#@28"

I love the look of snakeskin backed bows!

But this is my go-to bow. I love the way the handle feels and I like the physical weight of the bow...not too heavy and not too light.

Well I have to many back ups to a back up but this may be my new #2 back up. Just got VPA riser in last night and still in process of tuning. Gonna make new string for it today using foam carbon LB limbs. Scaled it last night. Kinda to light in draw weight for me so im gonna get heavier limbs to have as back up. Today is tuning day. Got to mod the grip slightly as it was original titan grip from the first run titan riser. Shoots pretty niceAFD8749A-5376-4A2B-8E3D-F9B91A3C91BE.jpeg

That’s a beautiful bow. Wish I could get heavier limbs for my back up also. But I’d have to ward something, which I would never do to that bow.
