1) Good synthetic hiking pant. Lots out there. Something like FL sawbuck if you need briar busting capability. More needs to be done with durability in that regard, a lot of the market is yoga pant shreddable garbage. Trying Kuiu Katana line next. Patagonia made a prefect pant called the field pant but it's discontinued. Hip vents can be nice bit I find them a bit extra as in not necessary. Personal preference.
2) Add merino longjohns if it's cold. That turns your light hiker into a midweight simple as that.
3) Add a down or synthetic puffy overpant if it's really cold and mostly, you're stationary.
Lower half systems aren't nearly as complicated as upper and extremities, it's really that simple. Spend your money and brainpower elsewhere. I could hunt in shorts like that survivor guy if my core and extremities are proper like that one survivor guy.
