The Dryad Drey (first ever saddle sit)

I received the dryad yesterday. Hung from a tree today. Either I don't know what I am doing or this thing isn't for me.

I assume you have watched the videos? I would call Dane and walk him through what your doing. There’s a 40 minute review on YouTube and it goes through everything.

Additionally I will say that it did take me a little bit of playing with the bridge height and all that’ll get it were I wanted it. It’s not a standard saddle so it may take some getting used to.I would call Dane before you try again.

For me there was actually too much material (fully extended the top string or rope, whatever it is), dug into my back when I had it up under my arms, and the extra material left what felt like air pockets. I did talk for a while with the owner and he may be working on some future prototypes that I hope have like half the material and maybe a wider (thinner seatbelt) sewn on the top portion. I still love this idea and if he has some changes for next year I will be trying that new version.

I have a long list of saddles including the Guido's Web when it came out and the JX3 . The Drey in my humble opinion is more comfortable than all of them. I am developing a 1 stick method using the Drey and its working quite nicely. I use a tether that has 2 prussics- one for the Hammock and the other connects to the belay loop for safety backup. Of course I go against the grain and use a short Chippewa Wedge Loc sticks and it's use allows me to remotely release the stick and tree strap from the tree while suspended. When at height I deploy the Drey fully( I have the bridge shortened considerably for ascent). When hunt is over rappell out using a hank of PMI EZ Bend 9mm Static and a Petzl Stop with bridge shortened. If you adjust the Drey so it is way back on your backside on ascent it is very comfortable and allows freedom for your knees. I have forgone the linesman loops as they interfere with the Drey and use the D loop on buckle as a way to stabilize enabling me to use both hands. Thanks to Dane for a forward thinking design!

Hey man not every saddle is right for everyone. Some loved the Cruzr xc and 2 panels, some don’t. The important thing is you tried it, to figure out if it was right for you. There no shame in that. If you’ve watched the videos and tried adjustments, then you have done what you can. The good news is the saddle is popular enough that you won’t lose much if any money on the classifieds! That’s why I see no harm in purchasing and trying new things. Dario just bought a flatbranch that others hadn’t tried. It’s how we find what works for us!

I think the major learning curve with the Drey is that it’s infinitely adjustable unlike any other saddle. For just laying back in it was comfortable right away for me. But when I started one sticking with it, I agree it was way to much material to deal with. After lots of fiddling I end up folding it basically in thirds during the one stick climb up the tree. Peel the front that would otherwise be under my knees, closer to my butt and peel the back part that would otherwise be almost touching my neck down towards my butt as well. At that point it’s basically the size of a normal one panel saddle. Once at height, pull everything back out again and fall asleep. I can’t believe how awesome this thing is, but it does require you to enjoy fiddling a little.

I hear you. I need to play with it more. I have been making my own saddles for a while now. I very much like a pleated cordura saddle, the same design in mesh.....not so much. I sit, so the dryad is very intriguing.

I had my reservations the first few minutes b/c of adjustments. I found I needed a much lower tether than I usually run. But correct if you tinker just a bit then you can find where it needs to be.

Learned more about the Dryad Sunday at the meet. I think its a very good saddle and make me want to make a fleece with the ripstop nylon material. I think it will be a hit with the niche of niche that does not mind 'dialing in' their comfort. Its not a saddle that you want to wear and forget like a Phantom. But price is about the same as others on the market.
