Hopefully, the cramp was due to lack of potassium or hydration. I recently turned 57. I drink around a gallon of water daily. It really has helped me physcially. I broke my back in 2 places at 8 years old. A 20 foot nosedive from a Hackberry along with a carwreck took out a few more discs over the years. So physically, nearly my whole life has been a struggle. Honestly, if I woke up and wan't hurting somewhere, I would think I died and went to heaven. Since there is nothing I love to do more than hunt, I will continue to plod through with a smile on my face. As long as there are people out there like Mr. Warren (WHW) I will have all of the inspiration I need to keep on keepin on.

I will be 56 on Friday and while I have good cardio, I have no answer for the constant aches and pains that come from normal aging and too much football when I was younger. I developed a love for hunting the mountains a few years ago, and the only way I can continue that passion is to stay active year round. I try to hike with a weighted pack (not too heavy) twice during the week, with a long scouting hike for a few hours on the weekend. I have ramped up the scouting recently trying to find a good spot to set up for a bear on the bow opener in a little over a week. Hydrating well beforehand and Staying hydrated while hiking is critical to avoid overheating and cramping, so I always start with 2 - 3 32oz Nalgene bottles along with my Sawyer Water filter to top off if needed. This was last Sunday’s scouting trip with almost 900’ of elevation gain. I definitely felt that one for a few days afterwards, but on the upside I found a couple of good bears to hunt on the opener.

Charlie horse leg cramps! Got me too! After my first true day in a saddle I had a rough night. My Flex was great no issues all good. Started cramping after I sat on the coach reading Saddle Hunter. Wow did it hit me, I could not get up. Though my wife was going to die from laughter. As soon as I can walk I can't wait to (Get back in the saddle again).

Early in the season, I can get leg cramps that feel like my muscles are being ripped in half. It almost always happens about an hour or more after I'm in bed. It jars me awake (and usually anyone wishing ear shot!)
A product called Frubiase really helps prevent cramps. Made in Germany but available on Amazon.

Is it available from any dealers in the USA? The link you gave is for Amazon.de in germany.

Pretty soon my age will have a 5 handle, not looking forward to that. Spent the weekend hiking around hill country that's really kicked my azz, averaging 3-5 miles per day with 300 ft elevation change. Got back to hotel and had abdominal muscle cramps that are just terrible, even after slugging lots of water. Is this how old hunters go into retirement? The abdominal cramps are really bad, they lay you out. Is there some miracle cure to avoid this?
I'm 62 and I hear what your saying...my solution is to remain active all summer hiking and climbing trees. I just had a game warden check me out in Iowa and he said your doing pretty good for your age. I told him I don't t have anyone my age or in my group that can keep up with me....he said you have to love the sport...a big "Yes" was my answer...Keep it moving and grooving guys

IDK. My wife used to work for Bayer and she got a bunch thru work. Not sure if its possible to get it in the US. When I say the Amazon link, I assumed it was available here in the states.
