The Mercy Seat

Alabama at least has a lot of deer. Lot of hunters too, but the older and deadlier ones lived through a time when there were literally no deer in a lot of counties. Decades of "If you kill one doe, you kill 13 deer" (not sure on that math, but an old guy I know swears that an average doe will have a dozen fawns in her lifetime and repeats that saying often). Killin does was VERY frowned upon in my youth, and still is looked down upon. But we kinda overdid it, and the state is now begging folks to kill does to rebalance the herd and avoid an overpopulation issue, especially with CWD a possible threat that's much more serious when there is an overabundance of deer.
Yeah it takes a lot to shift attitudes...especially when the old way kinda ended up too successful. We're tryin' like hell to stop/slow/contain CWD here - in some areas with pretty aggressively depopulating strategies that are gonna be realllly tough to get buy-in on. And attractant bans and bans on recreational feeding (which I support the hell out of - my parents deal with the damn neighbor feeding deer (so the wolves can pattern and eat them) through new years or so, then snowbirding (so the deer that didn't get eaten now starve since they're adapted to digesting corn when all there is to eat is crappy midwinter browse).

Deer are a damn tough resource to manage.

And royalties for you?
Absolutely. For every 250 in sales I get 10% warm fuzzies and dryer lint.

Most of my friends know I'm deeply selfish. By promoting good products, I win because smart people make more money and hopefully my gear gets cheaper and better. That's my angle when I promote stuff. Why settle for a prostaff discount when you can get that? Look at treehopper. Mark makes money, grows his business, and now instead of just a treehopper drill there are also treesuit platoforms and recons slings.

ALABAMA DCNR 2018: WERE ON THE BRINK OF CWD OUTBREAK STATE WIDE.
(They proceed to set up boarder patrol to catch folks bringing whole deer back into the state of Alabama)

ALABAMA DCNR 2019: BAITING IS NOW LEGAL AND WERE DOING EVERYTHING WE CAN TO STOP THE SPREAD OF THAT CWD THING WE TOLD YOU ABOUT LAST YEAR.

So what’s the comfort like after a couple hours sitting? Also is there any noise from the metal parts when shifting weight during the sit?

Yeah I think they made a mistake by legalizing feeding. But they get 15$ per permit so guess that's the reason. Its all about money. Rich people feed like crazy and have all the deer on their land and they contribute to the people in power and they pass laws to allow feeding. And then the state gets the $15 per permit and everybody wins...................except the poor man that cant afford 50 bags of corn @8$ per bag or the man trying to hunt public land where feeding is illegal and the land owners around pull all the deer off the public land with feed. I'm against it all the way.

Oh, it gets better. You know ole Dan Moultrie was a member of the conservation advisory board for years, right? And that he was the biggest champion of the baiting bill? And that most of the corn you buy in Alabama is his?

Yeah, gotta love good ole boys.
