I wanna be like THP when I grow up so I am testing my ground game today...
Or I forgot my saddle at home. Casualty of sleep deprivation.
Or I forgot my saddle at home. Casualty of sleep deprivation.
In line with @kyler1945's cathartic griping thread, this here is place to confess your sins and darkest desires.
I'll start...
I've always wanted to use a butt-out tool. I'm not sure what Freud would say about that, but golly gee I wanna see what I'm missing out on. You know they have a version 2? It's been around for years and they've IMPROVED it. Could it be? Might it be? A game changer?
I also miss my hand climber sometimes.
I don't really care for bourbon. Rye whiskey is ok. Vodka is delicious.
I'm unsettled by possums. @denots, there, I said it.
I've rocked a man-bun before. And I liked it.
I don't always just drink domestic lite beer. Sometimes I like a nice, hoppy, slightly prissy and hipsterish IPA.
My wife knows more about cars than me.
I think tenderloins and filet mignon are both practically tasteless and mushy, and highly overrated.
Possums are awesome. Horses are scary
Im off all week but am choosing to metal detect instead. No shame

Why shoot a .280 when you can shoot a .283? Or even a .284!Why settle for a .260 when you can shoot a .270 or even, dare I say, a .280? (Bigger is always better, right?) Or the ever popular, Kraut killin', SS slayin', WWII winnin' turdy aught six? The .260 never stood a chance... View attachment 39286
I found a half penny across the street from where I live. I can't read the date but they were minted I think, from 1798 to 1805. Mostly I find junk. Deer hunting for me is about like metal detecting, a lot of nothing and after a LOT of time something good.

Why not shoot a 50 BMG? No shame intended or implied. Why shoot a .280 when you can shoot a .283? Or even a .284!
Why shoot an 06 when you can shoot its bigger 8mm nemesis?
At some point the buck stops here...Why not shoot a 50 BMG? No shame intended or implied.

I have no interest in football or any other organized sport on television. I’ll watch it if there’s beer in a social setting. Sometimes I review SEC highlights Sunday evening, so I won’t be caught totally off guard at the office if a boss tries to chat me up about “the game”.

My first was a model 94 30-30. Didn't miss a thing with it until I tried to get all fancy and added a scope...The first rifle that was "mine" was a 30-06. I got it when I was 13. My dad hand loaded, so he picked that caliber for me because he could whip up a custom reduced recoil load for when I was young, and when I got older, I would have a gun that would take nearly anything North America had to offer.
However, what he didn't consider, was that since the '06 is a "long action", most guns that came chambered in it at the time were big - Long stock, long barrel, long action. The gun did not fit me well, and I could not shoot it well because of this. The stock was too long for me; I had to lean into it hard to see through the scope, and got whacked a few times because of it.
When I got a little older and had some money of my own, I decided to buy a new rifle because, at the time, I had a .22 and a 30-06, but nothing in between for groundhogs, coyotes, etc. I bought a Remington 700 Youth 243 - Short 20" barrel and stock with a spacer kit that allows you to easily customize the LOP. I know it's a "kid's gun," but I LOVE this rifle. It is small, light, easy to carry, has almost zero felt recoil, and it is a tack driver. Lots of folks say the .243 is too small for deer, but every deer I've ever shot with it, literally dropped so fast, their legs were piled up underneath them. (Granted, I have only shot does with it so far, so I waited for the perfect shot opportunity each time.)
Since then, I also bought a Remington Model 7 in .308 that is very similar. Short barrel, short LOP stock, and super light. Lots of power in a small package. With the .243 and .308 at my disposal, the 30-06 hasn't left the safe in years.

Im baffled at how many people dedicate their lives to it. I kinda feel bad for them in a way but to each there own. After all, I dirt fish for old coins for god sakes.

Haha! Metal detecting will likely be the next hobby I get in to. I love finding the old coins!

If it was good enough for 2 world wars it's good enough for me. I've always seen the 30-06 as the most no BS caliber out there. I have precious little patience for ballistics charts, David Petzal, and gun counter talk. A big ole cartridge that's at the upper-limit of what most folks can handle recoil-wise and that you can literally find ammunition for at most country gas stations? Please and thank you. I had a .243 and it did great until it didn't. The 30-06 is like the Thor's hammer. Why settle for a .260 when you can shoot a .270 or even, dare I say, a .280? (Bigger is always better, right?)
