The No-Shame Thread

I finally got through this thread. I don’t have the patience to scroll for an hour on one thing.

I love crocs. So much that I have 2 back up pairs for when mine wear out in case they stop making them. Which is ridiculous.

I am still trying to find my climbing stick nirvana. Using four mini shikars and a 5 step etrier. Might go to a fixed loop step and a swaider. But the new tethrd sticks have me quite curious.

I like my H2 but I’m dying to try a 2 piece. And the recon seems to be the popular comfort vote.

I love watching the woods wake up in the morning as well but find motivation difficult at times but do my best to get out there. I also think I’m the squirrel whisperer with no desire for that title. They just find me and I haven’t shot a squirrel since I was 13. Might have to get a squirrel arrow in the quiver.

I love deer camp and my buddies but don’t like hunting up there as much because they just hunt close by and it’s all pounded with hunters of every critter in season. So that’s especially when I prefer the evening hunts. I wouldn’t mind another serious hunter that would motivate me to scout more and hunt mature bucks with an actual chance to kill them rather hunting my usual spots. Would love to hit more public but it all gets hammered in PA. I would to look at more public online and do the truck camping/hunting thing.

I want a bidet also. Would rather watch YouTube then actual TV. I like to occasionally have a few and go down the YouTube rabbit hole. You know, start on a saddle hunting video, then I’m into metal music, and then 8 beers later I’m on 911 conspiracy theories and have no clue how I got there. But the variety of shows on Netflix and prime are pretty good.

I too almost can’t stomach wounding deer but I put it out of my mind and do my best to correct why and what went wrong. I’m some weird animal lover that feels hunting let that animal have a better life then the pork, beef, and poultry industry that those poor animals go through. My animal lover keeps me from hunting bears. I love bears. Not begrudging bear hunters, I just have no desire to do it.

I better stop for now. I’ll ramble forever.

In line with @kyler1945's cathartic griping thread, this here is place to confess your sins and darkest desires.

I'll start...

I've always wanted to use a butt-out tool. I'm not sure what Freud would say about that, but golly gee I wanna see what I'm missing out on. You know they have a version 2? It's been around for years and they've IMPROVED it. Could it be? Might it be? A game changer?

I also miss my hand climber sometimes.

I don't really care for bourbon. Rye whiskey is ok. Vodka is delicious.

I'm unsettled by possums. @denots, there, I said it.

I've rocked a man-bun before. And I liked it.

I don't always just drink domestic lite beer. Sometimes I like a nice, hoppy, slightly prissy and hipsterish IPA.

My wife knows more about cars than me.

I think tenderloins and filet mignon are both practically tasteless and mushy, and highly overrated.

I’ll address your list first and then put some thought in to mine:

Butt-out tool works great, but gutless method is the greatest thing ever

LWHC and a saw might scratch that itch and still be SH approved

Possums are awesome. Horses are scary

IPAs are the nectar of the gods, but this time of year, I will sneak in an Oktoberfest from time to time. Life is too short to drink lite domestic macro brewed beer

Wear your hair however you want. It’s just hair

My wife knows more about almost everything useful in life than me

T-bones and ribeyes for the win

That’s true but they didn’t exactly show much love for the 260 either.

Why settle for a .260 when you can shoot a .270 or even, dare I say, a .280? (Bigger is always better, right?) Or the ever popular, Kraut killin', SS slayin', WWII winnin' turdy aught six? The .260 never stood a chance... 1605274548163.png

Im off all week but am choosing to metal detect instead. No shame

Why shoot a .280 when you can shoot a .283? Or even a .284!

Why shoot an 06 when you can shoot its bigger 8mm nemesis?

I found a half penny across the street from where I live. I can't read the date but they were minted I think, from 1798 to 1805. Mostly I find junk. Deer hunting for me is about like metal detecting, a lot of nothing and after a LOT of time something good.

I have no interest in football or any other organized sport on television. I’ll watch it if there’s beer in a social setting. Sometimes I review SEC highlights Sunday evening, so I won’t be caught totally off guard at the office if a boss tries to chat me up about “the game”.

The first rifle that was "mine" was a 30-06. I got it when I was 13. My dad hand loaded, so he picked that caliber for me because he could whip up a custom reduced recoil load for when I was young, and when I got older, I would have a gun that would take nearly anything North America had to offer.

However, what he didn't consider, was that since the '06 is a "long action", most guns that came chambered in it at the time were big - Long stock, long barrel, long action. The gun did not fit me well, and I could not shoot it well because of this. The stock was too long for me; I had to lean into it hard to see through the scope, and got whacked a few times because of it.

When I got a little older and had some money of my own, I decided to buy a new rifle because, at the time, I had a .22 and a 30-06, but nothing in between for groundhogs, coyotes, etc. I bought a Remington 700 Youth 243 - Short 20" barrel and stock with a spacer kit that allows you to easily customize the LOP. I know it's a "kid's gun," but I LOVE this rifle. It is small, light, easy to carry, has almost zero felt recoil, and it is a tack driver. Lots of folks say the .243 is too small for deer, but every deer I've ever shot with it, literally dropped so fast, their legs were piled up underneath them. (Granted, I have only shot does with it so far, so I waited for the perfect shot opportunity each time.)

Since then, I also bought a Remington Model 7 in .308 that is very similar. Short barrel, short LOP stock, and super light. Lots of power in a small package. With the .243 and .308 at my disposal, the 30-06 hasn't left the safe in years.

My first was a model 94 30-30. Didn't miss a thing with it until I tried to get all fancy and added a scope...

Then I moved to a M1917. 4 ft long with a 26 in barrel. Great for busting brush

I wish it was legal to hunt deer with in my state. But it’s not. I did whack 2 coyote pups at 210 yards with one shot (their vitals were crossed the way they were standing). Dropped them both like a bad habit. Never saw what it could really do before that. I was impressed.

Haha! Metal detecting will likely be the next hobby I get in to. I love finding the old coins!

Only hobby i have found that us regular folks can actually get a pay back on. I know someone who is at over $1200 in clad for the year, not to mention their historical finds. I have had offers on my WWI service medal I found and CS (Confederate States) belt buckles fetch over $2k. This guy aint sellin though. Too cool

Me either. I used to up until about 25-30 ish but was never a Sunday couch potato. I haven’t watched a whole game in some 20 years. Nowadays I don’t even watch the highlights I do how ever know everyone’s team at work and tell them how bad the suck or there just on the bandwagon every once in awhile. Lol
Why watch grown men play a game when I can be out doing something productive?

If it was good enough for 2 world wars it's good enough for me. I've always seen the 30-06 as the most no BS caliber out there. I have precious little patience for ballistics charts, David Petzal, and gun counter talk. A big ole cartridge that's at the upper-limit of what most folks can handle recoil-wise and that you can literally find ammunition for at most country gas stations? Please and thank you. I had a .243 and it did great until it didn't. The 30-06 is like the Thor's hammer.

It ain't askin', it's tellin'.
