The Official Ground Hunting Thread

Are you suggesting that since my ready to hunt saddle is in the back seat next to my ready to hunt pack with my bow that I don't need another do-dad to carry around??? I dunno man. I dunno.

Actually I'm not sure a saddle would work good for me from the ground. I think I'd fidget a lot for one, and I'll take a backrest over the saddle if I don't need fall restraint. But mostly I have a mental block about it. Seems to make sense to use a saddle elevated. But on the ground not so much for some reason

In guess I should stop being a smarty and give it real consideration. I'd have had that decent turkey last Sunday, no question had I been in my saddle rather than sitting on the ground.

I walked in here with every intension of climbing a tree to hunt but there wasn't any good options. Sign was there.....look around and find a spot with some tall grass/shrubs/bushes with a suitable tether spot..... I'm actually about 5ft off the ground in the pic because there was a pine tree that has fallen and the top was hung up in a near by tree...I was able to walk up the pine trunk and tether to a palm tree that the trunk had narrowly missed when it fell....tethered to a palm and standing on the pine trunk. That grass is about chest/neck high so sitting right on the ground wasn't an option eitherScreenshot_20230427-103523~2.png

I still love to ground hunt with my rifle and crossbow. I haven’t shot one with my compound from the ground in about seven years. Most of my deer have been killed from the ground. I have a seat cushion that is a small tire inner tube inside a camo bag that I bought 30 years ago, it’s the best seat ever.

I mostly hunted from the ground this season. Definitely harder to get away with movement compared to being in a tree. But can’t beat the mobility and comfort. I didn’t get a deer from the ground this season but had several encounters and made a bad hit on a buck during gun season. I believe it was non lethal. I keep talking myself out of a Waldrop. I just think that I can get by with my tree hammock seat or a cheap camping chair.

Here’s that seat I was talking about. I honestly can’t believe it’s held up as long as it has.

Is this a inner tire liner of like a wheel barrel

That's really clever. I thought it was a $5 hemorrhoids pillow in a $1 camo sleeve, sold for $40 to turkey hunters. I've got a wheelbarrow tire inner tube I can patch and sew a cover for.
It’s very much like a hemorrhoid pillow. I’ve thought about putting together a new one but this one has held up for so long

For what you're doing with it, the inner tube is probably indestructible.

I wonder... I'm not sure what they're called, the inflator bulbs on a blood pressure cuff... could one of those be hooked up to an inner tube, so you can inflate/deflate it? Maybe deflate it to pack it smaller, or to adjust inflation for comfort.

That’s an amazing idea.
