The Official Ground Hunting Thread

Would you say this seat is way more comfortable than the standard cheap 3 legged stool? Seems like having this larger seat area than the cheapo stools would really increase the comfort factor. Also, how do you like sitting while the stool is collapsed down all the way for hunting behind some short cover?
Hard to say; this is the only one I've used. The mesh is sturdy but soft, so I'm sure it's quieter than the cheap ones, and the seat is big and comfy. It's rock solid when kneeling, but when sitting with it collapsed with just your feet on the ground, having 3 points of contact helps, like your back against a tree. Otherwise, toppling over is a possibility. I've only done that once, but I'm sure it would have been hilarious to onlookers.

I’ve shot a few deer from a pop up blind. I’ve even been sitting on a pipeline with no cover at all. My wife sitting next to me. Dropping a doe at 225 yards. My biggest thing I’ve gotten hunting at ground level was a sow. Again sitting on a pipeline top of a hill. Close to 100yards out and the 25 feet down. A pack of hogs come across. My friend and I had to use his wheeler to lift her onto the front of mine. That shot I was able to kill 7 hogs with 1 shot.

I used @WHW trick having a handful of leaves while stalking in and dropping a leave or 2 when they were looking in my direction....never got a shot but I do believe that it helped me get in a little closer.

I know people advocate for the heel to toe walk to "quiet" ur footsteps but I find that placing ur toe down first and slowly weighting the ball of ur foot before allowing the heel to slowly take ur bodyweight to be much quieter...thin sole shoe with good ground response/feel real important getting into bow range.

Lower that bow draw weight cause u gonna have to draw in very awkward positions....think about that thp episode were jack was pretty much laying on the ground behind a log and the buck came in to under 10 yds

This is my favorite setup for the ground. The seat is a Walkstool Comfort; slings across my back like a quiver, quick and quiet to set up, and more comfortable than my Niff-T seat. I usually use it in the low setting, in a kneeling position with both knees on the ground,, so havent worried too much about the bright aluminum legs. First pic is all I take to the woods except what I carry in my pockets.
Can you get us a measurement in the height when in the low seated position? Ground to seat?

No matter how I’m hunting I always carry a small foam pad with me. I used to use a small cut off from a sleeping pad, now I carry a kuiu glassing pad. It weighs nothing and disappears in my backpack or hip pouch. Sometimes you have to ditch the plan, and stop and be silent wherever you are. Having a pad allows me to improvise and be comfortable enough anywhere, anytime.

This is good. I'll have to remember to shove one in my pack this year.

I hear that. I use the thermarest z-seat. Folds small but gives option.

This thing is fancy and I swear has some magic that makes it feel heated when it’s cold out. The size is about 9 x 16” and weighs about half an Oz. But any old piece of foam will do.ED7B6A6D-8478-4013-955D-8BA9C0D45708.jpeg

I love this thing so much that I bought a couple
And gifted them to my hunting family members for Xmas.

Keep 2 of them in my pack at all times. It comes in handy for so much.

I like to find travel corridors then find natural vegetation to hide in along them. In the picture I am sitting in a thicket that I cut out a spot to sit in and a clearing to shoot from. Bow sits on a shooting stick in the ready position. I am just sitting on a pad. In this spot the deer regularly travel from the right to the left at about 20-25 yards about 30-60 min from dark. They dont have a clue you are there. if you wanted you could have cut out more in the middle, sat in a chair and made your shooting window higher. This was one of my favorite places to hunt till the paper company logged the property off two years ago, and totally changed the pattern of the deer.

I hunt off the ground some and need to do it more. I have been practicing my bow a lot lately out of a turkey chair, a Torges seat, and a camo'd up plastic Walmart chair.

I've had several encounters with deer up close on the ground so I know it is doable. Here are a couple of pics from some ground hunts. The one of me in neon orange was the hunt I clean missed a buck at 12 yards. Shot right where I was looking but the buck didn't oblige me by ducking to the shot.

I have to say I have been giving a lot of thought to the PacSeat. Has anyone bow hunted with a compound out of the lower turkey seat?

What is that mound in the 3rd picture? Ground 2022?

Following along. I've been turkey hunting from the ground and it is a whole different experience! Probably not giving up the height advantage though. Also thinking on that Waldrop but... I'm cheap

It's the root ball of a fallen tree. I used it as background cover.
