The Official Ground Hunting Thread

I hope this isn't a derail but is anyone using a jx3 tethered at ground level? Still gotta have a tree but it can be much less of a tree. And hopefully the comfort helps you stay still at exposed ground level. Sort of hybrid/options type of kit? Climb or don't. Any one have tried both a pacseat and a jx3?
I did a JX3 ground hunt a couple years ago. Tethered to tree, cleared leaves around the base. Easy setup.

Had a Doe walk right up to about 15 yards. Used the tree to hide as long as I could before she busted me. It was buck only rifle season. Fun encounter.

Anyone tried the pit method? Or one of these things? The farm I hunt is so wet, so not many places I could use something like this where I want to. But I need to make some ground blinds for next year. So still shifting thru this thread.

Went up to Missouri for 10 days about a week ago, first day up there me and my brother in law jumped a lot of deer on the access trail 300 yards from the parking lot. After a full day of hunting deep and running into other hunters I circled back and set up on the edge of the trail between a thicket and hardwoods. Sure enough at the sunset she slipped in downwind while I was sitting down with my bow 2 feet away. Grabbed the bow, drew back, stood up to be clear of some brush and shot her at 8 steps. How she didn’t catch all the movement I’ll never know

This is the only place I can post my frustrations. Live from the pack seat. Day 13 of this hunt posting on page 13 of this thread, that's got to be lucky! Heck I need somthing. Temp 39 this morning. Hit 53 by 11. Only saw 1 buck, a 7 point. He walked by at 6:45am at 30 yards. I let him pass, I was not that hungry. Tomorrow last day of my hunt. The winds from the NE shifting to East tomorrow. Blows my favorite spot. Going in blind to a point that runs east off a field. This has been my worst hunt in years. I think it is a combination of warm Temps and extream hunting pressure. I never have seen so many out of state hunters. I think the bucks are in lock down now, but their is always a chance.

Man, I hate to hear of your continued struggles. Sometimes it just works out that way, but as you say it can always turn around quick as long as you are in the game. Tell us a little more about the land, terrain, pressure, etc. Maye one of us can think of something outside the box to help break this streak.

Hunting LBL in west KY. You can map it and see the terrain.
Open to bow hunting, unlimited. The gun draw started yesterday, 3 days. I got here for the third time this year on Nov 6th. The youth hunt was on the 4th & 5th. When I was here on Oct 18, I saw alot of big rubs and scrapes in the same area I saw that big drop tine twice last year. The sign has dried up. The temps warmed up. I have walked, scouted high, low and everything in between. I covered thick areas, so think a big buck could not walk into. I covered the edges and the interior. Not much in the way of sign. I am at one of the camp grounds. We have 12 guys from Florida, a few of them are saddle hunters. A group from Alabama, some guys from Georgia and Montana. Heck we even have some from a foren country, I think it is Oregon, LOL. Some of these guys just bow hunted and they walked every ridge, bottom and parking lot. Too much pressure. Too warm of Temps and that's the way it is. Now the tems have droped, but the bucks are in lock down. Not many KY hunters hunt LBL any more. Probably for the reasons outlined above. I like to hunt big areas so I keep comming back. May have to change my plans for next year. I have to get up at 3, so I am out for now. Thanks for the concern, but I am out of time, but I could get lucky.

I’ve been up in a tree only twice this year, and didn’t have a shot on anything. Have killed two does and a buck from the ground, once behind my ghost blind and twice in solid cover.

What a friggin toad!

Oh this I gotta see

I’ve seen that in YouTube a a few times and have been intrigued by it as well. Wednesday night I shot a doe at about 50 yards with a subsonic 300 blackout round. I was standing in dry creek bed which was chest high. She couldn’t quite make me out. Blew at me and circled around for a bit. I’ll hunt that spot again. Gun setup on a tripod and I can stand up and shoot 360 degrees.

I went out this evening and scouted a new area. I walked until I found a small water hole on the back side of a dense thicket. The ground around the little stagnant pool was covered in tracks. I set up the Packseat about 20 yards from the far side of the puddle and with the wind right, settled in for the afternoon. Unfortunately, all I saw this evening was a squirrel. It was a fun hunt nonetheless and the climb down was a breeze.

I love your setup buddy

Thanks! I really like hunting off the ground. Setup is really easy, and breakdown is even easier. I am lucky that I have no issues sitting still for long periods of time. I'm not fidgety. The only thing I added to the seat so far is a little camo vet wrap, and a fanny pack that I zip tied on. It carries everything I need.

I love to climb but as I get older, I plan to do more ground hunting eventually going to this 100%. It's also a lot more intense when the animal is at eye level with you.

Any good way to attach a water bladder without using another pack? Want to run a fanny pack only with this when I get it, but I’m a heavy water drinker and don’t like carrying bottles. My current packs that hold the bladder are oversized for ground hunts.
