This is a great thread and I've use Military Surplus gear for years. Durable and cost effective. My favorites:

FOR HUNTING:
My Field Pants! The label says: Trousers, Cold Weather- Class 2 - Woodland. They have large side cargo pockets with tie downs if you need them, strong cordlike strings at the cuffs and they are more durable than regular BDU pants. There are buttons on the inside to attach a liner (much like the M65 Field Jacket) but I have never used these. They have covered metal snaps instead of the large buttons for all the pockets and my favorite part, they have a cord on a durable zipper for the "fly." No stupid buttons that take ten years to button up and down with cold fingers!! I used and wore for years the M1951 Field Pants OD which were very similar to the ones I have now.

ALICE Pack - I have both a medium and a large ruck with the LC2 Frame

GI Wool Glove Liners - With a muff and when its super cold, hand warmers inside the muff.... you can use these all season.

GI Polartec Bibs. I wear them on the inside over my base layers but under my Field Pants and I pretty much stay warm in these for most of the season. I like that they cover up your midriff area nicely and do not have the bulk of normal hunting type bibs that you wear over everything. I did go to an IWOM this year for the coldest hunting, and I like this system as pretty much I have an all season set up with just a few articles of clothing.

USGI Snowshoes- Absolutely the best ones made in my opinion. Especially if you're a trapper!!

Silk-weight base layers, with poly pro mid layer, I finish with Finnish Wool pants which I can wear into the teens and stay warm enough. I have the Polartec bibs and jacket but have not had the need to wear them yet. Modified wool glove inserts for gloves.

I use an assault pack as my carry bag (1 stick with platform). Can easily carry my modified Summit folding climbing stick and Predator XL externally. Internally I carry a gardener's knee pad and ring of steps, extra mid layers and socks if I need to change. Outer pocket, deer processing equipment and my lunch and snacks, I have an e-tool molle pouch and my molle thermos pouch attached to carry extras and my coffee thermos.

Didn’t have a price tag on it and I went to the counter figuring it would be close to $20. The lady behind the counter said how about $5. I felt guilty walking put with three dump pouches for my saddle for $5

They have some awesome packs in there as well. Lots of good stuff can be found in those bins if you dig around

German army mitts. They’re very warm and I use them for shoveling snow. Think I got these for $10, made in the 80’s with no signs of wear.

After chatting with a fellow member I decided to take the chance on the N1-B Mukluks. Can't wait to get them and see how they do here in MN. I know they are supposed to be left as is and used in the colder temps to avoid them absorbing a bunch of moisture but I think I'm going to try using the Nikwax Cotton/Canvas stuff to help prevent the water from absorbing as much as possible. It's supposed to be breathable so it should work well.
 
On my seemingly never ending look for the optimum main storage for the back of my vest I think I found a winner....it had some Velcro that a little stitch popping and stealth strip fixed. This is a sweet little pouch...I don't know the dimensions of all the platforms but it's like a poor man's predator pack..... 13x11x5.....the 2 little side pouches aren't as useful being Velcro closure only, they would need modification for me to use.....

Oh, man. Bunny boots, MOLLE anything, pistol belt suspenders, woobies, ponchos, snowshoes, boots.

Can't forget the Mauser, Arisaka, SMLE, and various 7.62x39 and x54R rifles, or the M1911.
 
Headed to the surplus store today. Its my nephews birthday and he loves this kind of stuff. He's 9 so he is really getting into camping, etc. Pretty excited to see his face when he walks in. I get excited so I can't imagine how much he'll love this place!

The one in hamburg by cabelas? I was there last week for the first time. It was like toysrus lol
 
Russian Snow Camo (poncho style w/ sleeves & hood) was $40 and has been very durable and effective.
U.S. Army molle pack has been very useful for saddle hunting. I carry everything from a platform to medical supplies, food, water, knives and extra clothes, etc. Again, $40. Plenty of molle loops and straps for attachments.
Picked up a Finnish M39, in 7.62x54R for $80 that has proven to be an excellent shooter. Impressive for being built in 1942.

Nomex flight gloves. (Not super durable but you can actually do stuff with your fingers while wearing them.) Leather flight gloves with wool liner gloves. Not as supple/flexible as the nomex gloves but more durable and a lot warmer. Watch caps (wool).

I have some old half zip high collar capilene/polypro shirts that are super thin. I was issued 2 of them the first time I got to Korea in 1993 that I've been wearing for 28 years and I'm just now wearing through the elbows. Still a great mid layer. The 5 button wool sweaters are my absolute favorite piece of gear, though. I have gone through half a dozen of them (they get snagged fairly easily in briars) and always keep 3 or 4 on hand. The 90s era Goretex jackets with the giant velcro chest pockets (internal) are fantastic. I still have one of those that is my primary hunting jacket but I'm considering moving to something more streamlined for next season. The full-leg-zip pants that went with those were also fantastic but I haven't seen any in years.

Most of my stuff was either issued to me or my dad so I haven't had to shop a lot. The wool sweaters I've found at the traveling gun shows that come around every month or two. I've found a couple things on ebay but prices aren't that great, typically.
