Oh hey look, a can of worms.Every other mammals whole purpose on earth is to procreate....are u saying we are any different? The trend to not have kids is to weird...
Cmon manOh hey look, a can of worms.
As a whole homos are procreating just fine. 1 to 8 billion and increasing in a century. More people having babies than ever before.
In organisms where parents assume heavy costs of child rearing, it's not uncommon for them to have evolved a mechanism to delay procreation if times are rough. A whitetail doe if bred usually has twins. If browse is plentiful and the herd is healthy and she's nice and fat, she'll have triplets. If tines are lean she'll usually have a single fawn or even absorb the fetus before gestation.
But even before that, sexual procreation relies on hormones, and the more stress hormones an organism secretes the less likely they'll breed in the first place. A small, subordinate buck who just got an ass-whupping has lower testosterone than he otherwise would.
You can make a lot of arguments as to why WEIRD folk (western, educated, industrialized, rich, democratic) ain't having bebbies. I think there's a strong argument to be made that our bodies are picking up on the fact that we're "overpopulated" in those areas. I may be wrong, and it could be argued that the response system we have evolved over millenium is in dire need of recalibration given how much the world has changed in the last 200 years. We still crave sugar, after all.
But whatever is going on behind the scenes of our minds, my wife and I have also discussed the fact that we're poor and working through a lot of stuff emotionally. Getting over both humps, and I like kids, but I'm glad as hell I didn't start raising a kid 7 years ago and make it live through me working out my stuff while having a very real additional stressor.
Final thought, there is no "purpose" behind evolutionary biology. Or gravity. You can describe what both ARE doing, but not what they OUGHT to be doing. Is/ought fallacy applies to a lot of biological functions. "It's natural, doesn't equal "it's a good move for you." It's natural to die of a ruptured appendix. But you may very safely decide to not do that thing.
If I never have kids, I sleep easy knowing that all ya'll's kids are 99.9% genetically identical to me. My genes are doing awesome. And, I identify more with my memes than my genes. Plato, Nietzsche, and Schopenhauer were all childless...but I'd argue they're more alive today as they live on in their memes than your great, great, great, great, great grandad is when it comes to the proliferation of his genes.
Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.
It's just revenge for you taking attention away from the OG no-shame thread.Cmon man

Best 3 out of 5?Lego’s…
Come on man!!!Best 3 out of 5?
Let's be honest. I have seen you put a lot of backpacks across the classifieds did I not?I’m ashamed I just bought FL clothing. It wouldn’t have hurt so bad if I would have bought it used, but I went and bought it new. At least it was on sale. If I can’t get over the weight of shame of owning rich man’s camo I will donate it to the charity of my choosing and return to hunting out of interstate UA as my penance.
You’d be a hit with the dudes who hunt near me. Only thing more popular for deer hunting than corn around here is a .350 Legend.Bought a straight wall (350 legend) deer rifle this past spring, was all excited and practiced with it and got used to it this summer... Now looks like I likely won't get out to hunt rifle season at all this year. Shame.
No shame in drawing a deer in for the kid. I'm holding on to my HC mini for them in hopes it'll get one of my girls on a deer before she can handle a bow/rifle even though I discovered I don't particularly enjoy it.You’d be a hit with the dudes who hunt near me. Speaking of shame and corn, I shamefully bought 100# of corn recently to scatter and supplement the absolute shameful food plots I planted this year and maybe get a few does in front of my 7YO in the blind. I make fun of myself as I buy it, but I’m really not terribly ashamed in the long run.
I have yet to experience shame while biting into butterfly back straps. You’d be a hit with the dudes who hunt near me. Only thing more popular for deer hunting than corn around here is a .350 Legend.
