The "Try Something New" Thread

I’ve considered that option as well due to reduced recoil and cheaper/more available ammo. I looked at a Bear Creek uppers and the reviews were mixed. Lots of people with feed issues.
I’ve heard that even some bolts have had feed issues with certain bullet shapes. I assumed it was handloads though.

How far into the knifemaking rabbit hole are you? i got into that for a little while too. havent had time lately.
Still pretty early on, I've only messed up a few tries at a few blanks etc thus far. Hoping to get good enough to gift my brother one by September.

For what it's worth, my Ruger American has had zero feed issues in the first 75 or so shots. Bolt action on the off chance you and @BuffaloBill aren't familiar. Uses an AR style mag, same disclaimer as my previous statement.

Very shooter friendly but I've heard of, and experienced, issues with expansion on factory loads. My only shot at a live target did fine, but it didn't expand. Didn't hit bone either, for what that's worth

My favorite part about it so far is the little Japanese tea cup my wife gifted me.
An ex-GF sent me a sake set when she got stationed at Sasebo. I've still got it somewhere and keep telling myself I should drink some sake from it one of these days.

It might be fun to do a custom build ML on an AR platform, just to screw with folks minds.
I think I remember seeing one of those. IIRC it looked fun but had a ridiculous price tag. If I was a machinist I'd probably try to fab one up just for funzies.

Writing a novel. I self published a book years ago on Amazon, but that was a collection of funny and disgusting true stories from my 10 years of experience delivering appliances.

Now I'm trying to write fiction, this story that's just been boiling in my head for at least a year. It's a lot harder, and it's hard to sit and write when there's so much other stuff going on.

I went down a YouTube hole on making stop motion animation figures, so it's not impossible that I might find myself dabbling with that too someday. Be on the lookout for a stop motion saddle hunting film...

I also have an old compound I'm thinking of converting into a bow fishing setup too. Never done it, but it looks fun.
Good luck with the novel!
I have been "working " on one for literally the last 20 years. My typing sucks, So every time I sit down to get serious, the story plays out in my head much faster than what I can get it down in print. Which usually leads to frustration, And then the whole thing being Set down again for months , sometimes years at a time. The story is likely to be told over 3-5 books.. and I currently have probably 75% of the first one written.

Well, trying out living alone for the first time in my life. :confused:The wife and I separated last October. After I moved out of my mom's house after high school, I moved immediately in with a friend in college, and then immediately in with my future wife. I'm 47 years old. It's...different.

I got involved in fantasy football this past season for the first time. I loved it! It was a lot of fun, and I'm looking forward to building on what I've learned this next season.

I also got into squirrel hunting this past year, and really had fun with that.

Maybe not an hobby, but this idea of not living up to my potential as really gnawed at me for the last couple of years. I think back to high school and college where I was lazy and unmotivated. I was a consistent B to C grade student. And looking back I could have gotten A's consistently(except math I suck at math lol). I was also fat with manboobs up to my second year in college hence the name bigmike. Now I am athletic and go to the gym 5-6 days a week. I won't say I love it, but I can't stand not living up to my physiques potential. And finally my career. I have a very good job as a tech level 2 in a manufacturing facility. Way above average pay and a ridiculous amount of time off to hunt. But as a kid, through high school and college, to now I always wanted to be a PA State Trooper. My hunting time would plummet dramatically, and my stress will certainly go up. But I can't help but think it's going to eat me alive when Im older, and look back on my life that I never tried. So now I have my polygraph scheduled in the next couple of weeks. Dont know if I'll get in. I already admitted to a litany of hunting laws broke as a kid into my early-mid twenties. If I'm disqualified at least I can close that door and move on finally.

That's awesome, following your dreams. Good luck, and success to all you do!

My best friend in the Navy had a dad that was a PA State Trooper. Elk County, I believe. He was a penis. That’s all I can add, lol.

I am seriously thinking on doing jijitsu I believe I will like it
I used to love to box and fight when I was young but now that I will be 50 Everything is slowing down and hurts more :tonguewink: :tonguewink: :tonguewink: :tonguewink: :tonguewink: :tearsofjoy: :tearsofjoy: :sunglasses:
Probably after my treatments I will Join a class or two a week
Go for it man. I started a couple years ago at 54, 4 stripe white belt now. Excellent workout both cardio and strength (3-4 2 hour classes a week), and it has significantly improved my flexibility and agility. Not to mention the added ego boost of tapping out younger stronger guys (with less training)

Lol, he was short too though so that probably had a lot to do his genitalia induced persona
