@Piney...Do you know the load rating for those rings - was it listed on the packaging? I only see that they meet ANSI standards, but I can't find any translation for that. I am interested in them, but want to make sure they are safe for our use.

The description says WLL working load limit = 4000 lbs. Working night shift, I'll check the paper work when I get home in the morning. Can't find any info on their website, but they use these in a bunch of different harnesses they manufacture.

Looks like they also offer a similar ring but in steel. It had it rated at 23kN. Wonder why they didn’t list for the aluminum?
Looks like it would be perfect.

Checked the paperwork that came with the D-rings and it doesn't state any specific rating like you would see with a carabiner. It just references ANSI Z359.1 standards (American National Standards Institute). A quick google search of those standards resulted in the following:

The ANSI Z359.1 Standard only allowed the front D-ring to be used for ladder climbing, fall restraint
and positioning. Section 3.2.2.5a allows
the front D-ring to be used in a fall arrest
system that:

(a) Limits the maximum free fall distance to two (2) ft. (0.6m)

(b) Limits the maximum arrest force to 900 lbs. (4.0kN).

The Standard also details the strength and performance testing requirements for the front D-ring in Sections 4.3.3.1a and 4.3.3.2a.

Under “Equipment Rigging and Use,”
Section 7.2, anchorages used for a
Personal Fall Arrest System (PFAS) shall be capable of sustaining static loads in the direction permitted by the PFAS:
(a) two times the maximum arrest force permitted by the System when certification exists; or
(b) 5,000 lbs. (22.2kN) in the absence of certification. The old Standard required 3,600 lbs. (16.0kN) without certification.

I'm confident in using them with these specs.

Thanks for that information, good to document it for anyone reading this thread going forward.

Getting ready to contact a few upholstery/ canvas shops around my location.

A few things:
- I like the idea of the rings piney used, I can see how they would be convenient but I had already ordered these rings. I may still switch them out with the D-rings.
- I am a small guy, so the rings come beyond my waist more when in place than they for some of the other builds on here, I may adjust the overall size of the loops in a second build if I find this one uncomfortable.
- If you are thinking about building this, do it. It takes some fiddling to get things in place but I can't think of many easier DIY builds outside of fleece/RCH.

- Question for those who have built this already: Which loop/belt did you attach your belt to?

I don't think it matters, but I haven't connected a belt yet, either. So in your pic, because it looks just like mine, right down to the fabulous gold color, I'd just pick the top-most or bottom-most. I'm OCD about keeping the straps laying flat and organized, but I just can't get it to stay that way, so I'm sort of giving up on keeping it neat looking, and in that sense it doesn't matter front or back, top or bottom, whichever one I choose to attach a belt to becomes the belt one.

Far as I can see, it only matters for making it hold up around my waist so the lineman's belt has a place to connect that doesn't keep falling down as I climb, right? Anyone?

The belt is only there to hold it up when walking and climbing. I unhook mine or loosen it a lot when in the tree.

I would love to see someone start selling these again. No patents, no worries. With the right resources and sewing capabilities, it would be easy to make and although you would still need liability insurance, the proven design leaves little to worry about.

You should throw one in with my other purchase! Bwahahahaha

I love my Anderson. The only beef I have is w/my belt that I sewed to one of the saddles. It holds it tight to your body but the 2nd saddle sags when walking and rubs the back of my legs. Cant sew the belt to both saddles because they have to move independently of ea. other. Hoping you have a better idea for a belt/

Binder clip? Clip them together while walking, remove before climbing.

Good idea! I planned to use a caribiner to clip them together in the back when walking with it on. For the most part, I do not plan to wear mine in, just keeping it in a backpack or cargo pants pocket. I will be using it some in the next weeks for turkeys and will need it then.

Finally got it put together. It took longer that expected to get comfortable in the tree with it but it worked great after that. I still have to work out a little hip pinch issues.

Seems like it would be a good option to use while waiting out the new saddle releases!

Hip pinch was addressed via the bridge length for us and each of us found a different length for our own comfort. Too short will definitely cause pinch.

What if you added a webbing strap with a ladder lock at the top or the bottom to cinch up the bottom section while you walked (left). Just pull the tab on the LL to loosed before you climb. You could accomplish something similar with a shock cord and a boot lace hook (right). The shock cord or paracord could double as a gear hanger for sticks/platform. This would be on the back side obviously.

I didn't have that issue with mine because my belt went through the original rectangular "biners" this allowed you tonight it and hold both up, but keep the two slings independent.2018-09-05 22.07.18.jpg
