Things I've learned my first morning at 9:30am sent from the tree

First post. This website got me started. Always used a rock climbing harness with my LW climber and now went with muddle areolite sticks and a sitdrag. Ropeman is my friend and I use a few. Now I’m onto 1 stick and descending with gri gri. Killed a nice buck on first sit which I caint say was because of the saddle but sure made my 1 hour set up worth the while. Man was I beat !!! One month in and I’m so much more proficient it’s not funny. Glad to hear u started like me and thanks to everyone for posting great info !!!

As for my bag I just switched over from my normal treestand pac to my Kuiu ultra 1800 pac that I use for pac country trips. Really helped me. Light and stays on my back awesome while I’m climbing and clips against tree well. Not my pac placement all depends on the tree or tree set I’m in but usually the top of the bag is lower than my waist height and can be on the complete opposite side of the tree.

Good luck. I have lots to learn.

I can’t promise a timeline guys but I am going to make a video for saddlehunterTV specifically about hanging your pack and bow. I’m just busy hunting hard right now.

Is this a YouTube channel?

At 63 I still can sit for hours with no cramps. I am more of a leaner with my knees locked. For long sits I will put an extra step about 10 inches higher on my left side. Sounds odd but gives you relief. I do hang my bow on the left at about 10 o’clock with my bow hook just under my rope. No slip even on the hard barks. I also have 2 flat washers tacked to the 2 steps that I stand on. Makes a huge difference to my feet.

How big are the washers? They distribute the load that much, huh?

I think 1 1/4. All the difference They grab and twist my gloves screwing them in but a big improvement. I posted pics a year ago on here somewhere.

Sounds about litle like my first hunt.. LOL. I didn't put the tether over my shoulder while securing my sticks and climbing.. by the time I was at the top stick my saddle was falling around to my ankles. It was dangerous.. my bad.. but now I'm solid, except for the set up time as I choose to climb using the one stick metthod and it's very inefficient for climbing speed.. but it makes up for it in pack weight and simplicity. I can hike or scout as deep as I want to with this minimalist set up. Just have to be willing to get back to the truck in the dark and get up extra early.. still taking my probably 30 mins to set up. That said, I'm selling my other climber. the saddle is much quieter and way more versatile. I passed 4 small bucks and 1 small eight point... nothing big this year.

definitely get a platform from Ernie. I love mine.

I can't wait to get in mine for the first time! I liked hearing the perspective of a newbie. I have no illusions that this is easy at first, but i am stoked! Guys I want y'all to know I haven't been this excited about anything since my daughter was born, and that's saying a lot! And what's best of all, I haven't seen anyone act like an a-hole. I do believe I will not hunt out of it until next season, but we'll see. February 15 is still a good ways off.

PJC I’m so glad to hear I’m not the oldest one on hear only 62. I’ve been using an XOP climber top to climb with and it makes a great platform. I’m hunting Virginia hardwoods and there’s a lot of climber trees here. Been here 17 days and only missed Sunday’s. A lot of 10 plus hours in tree days it just keeps getting better.
