To the people who have tried both: Sticks vs WE..

I started this SH journey with sticks, then after a few hunts sold them and used the WE for the past 2 seasons along with bolts. Then this off season I picked up 2 sets of sticks. LWCG and Dano custom set. I am liking the ease of use and safety of sticks. LWCG stack so much better than any other stick I have tried, which was my main hang up, stacking and carrying. I think it just depends on where I am going, how much time I have, and what I feel like using? I do see myself really giving sticks a shot this season to be my main method.

I wanted to love WE, but didn't. LW sticks with Dano mods. Double top step takes the place of platform on short time hunts.
Just fine by me.

I run 8 wildedge stepps and I use a one step movable aider and love it! Put one step waist high and the other as high as I can reach. I used a flat strap tether from the hunter safety system vest I had laying around with a climbing rated carabiner as my aider

If you're hanging two steps from a given location, why wouldn't you just pull yourself up on the next step? Grab the higher one and use the tree as the first step.

I think we refer to this as the "Cain Method".

Could you show a picture of your aider??

On pine trees it's hard to do my boot slips on the bark of the tree and it's just more comfortable to use the aider for me

This is my first year Saddle hunting, previously I’ve only hunted out of ladder stands and blinds, so take this for what it is.

I started off with 5 steps and a 4 step aider. I put in a few hours of practice, but never felt 100% comfortable, and it was a slow process.

I picked up some old Muddy sticks and did the Dyneema daisy chain mod. The first time I put the first stick on the tree I was sold. My stepps were sold and shipped two days later. At least for me as a new saddle hunter, the simplicity and speed of the climbing sticks won me over. And while it could have been user error, my stepps sometimes weren’t always sturdy - with three points of contact instead of 4, the stepps are just slightly less comfortable for me. I just ordered the new Hawk Heliums and May cut them down after this season to make them easier to pack. Hope this helps!

I've used both, for me, the steps are way more efficient. Once you've spent a little time getting used to using them, placement and the knot tying come very quickly. Way easier packing a mile in, through tough stuff, especially if you do an aerial map guess in the dark. My experience is packed into a very short time of using both. When you do it right, the steps are ROCK solid.

I'm a newbie to the who saddle game but so far I prefer the sticks. They are bulkier but I climb much more efficiently with them.

I like my steps with a 5 step aider. With three steps I can get to 21ft to my feet. Are they a little more finicky to set up yes. I do get frustrated when I’m in a hurry, but I love the pack ability of them. I use two sticks in behind my house with an aider and just move the second stick if I need to go higher. I like how easy they set up but I wouldn’t carry them where I go on public. What I’m trying to say is the w/e steps are awesome to carry for deep/thick areas. The sticks are great for quick setups. I think both are great and serve a place in my pack!

I’ve been trying the wild edge steps and I think I’ll be sticking to my sticks. Just a little to much fiddle factor with the steps. Also soft bark trees they just don’t work well especially with the knaider swaider. The point on the step will kick sideways once it scratches the bark off the tree.
