Too Popular?

Lots of “die hard” saddle hunters not going out right now cause it’s ”too hot”.
I’m starting to think folks are getting conditioned to seeing social media from a bunch of “experts” that says deer don’t move when x happens or deer don’t come out in daylight when y happens so they don’t go and they just regurgitate that quality info. There are guys on here that got zero deer the last two years and would shoot 27 on public around me because they would hunt. Hot, cold, rain, wind; they hunt.

This isn’t to say that if you have private or good spots and know your wind etc. that you shouldn’t do that. I’m not an expert or authority. You’re tag your hunt.

This is my second year saddle hunting. I got into it because it was the only way I felt safe going up in a tree.
I also bounce around to different properties, so at least in my head it seems to make sense to have a saddle. I’m not good enough to whack mature bucks yet, but I like the options saddles give me.
The group of guys I hunt with all use saddles which is probably what influenced me.
I don’t think saddles will go away any time soon.

Nah. Having kids taught me to have a mind for efficiency and flexibility. I had to. It's a necessity to achieve my personal hunting goals.

I would love to be out there, but the best predators have an extreme knack for timing. Anything except rain. Rain just sucks for hunting, that's fishing weather.

It's basically a math problem. With a set number of chances, I want to use them up when my odds are best.

I worked hard and made sacrifices to put myself in a position with a lot of work flexibility. Feel bad for the guys that have to commit to time off months in advance. That was me for a long time, and it sucks for hunting efficiency.

Still think it's a fad.

I was wrong about the overall mobile market really blowing up. Public land is also a fad right now, and that's driving mobile up.

I've come to realize most people don't like hunting, they like the aesthetic of being a hunter and buy the gear accordingly thinking it's the golden ticket. It's not. Still takes work. The outlook for the secondary market continues to look positive.

Full cycle will be when people realize how stupid overcomplicated some of these goofball climbing methods are in pole timber and 10-15 pound climbers make a big comeback. We'll be right back to where we started 35 years ago.

Is saddlehunting a fad? I don’t think it meets the requisite criteria. It’s existed for decades. So it’s not short lived. And apparently it’s still not very popular.

Anyway, I don’t see a mass saddle burning taking place at a Major League ballpark anytime soon, although who knows what Infalt will come up with next, lol.

As for hunting public land being a fad, there’s way fewer public land hunters in your state now than 30 years ago. I guess that’s somewhat reflective of hunter numbers in general. Still I don’t know that it’s some frenzied fad set off by G2 Outdoors and THP.

My brother’s FIL has been hunting for 60 years. He’s hunted public and private his whole life, but is hunting mostly public now. He’s never heard of THP, Dan Infalt, Tethrd, etc. The main reason he’s spending majority time on public is a shift in open opportunity in the private land domain. Hunters are locking up exclusive access to all the private properties and more and more landowners are not allowing hunting on their land as well.

For many, public land hunting isn’t some signal, tribe, aesthetic or whatever you all keep talking about…it’s all that’s left. I don’t see that changing.

I mean realisticaly if your saddle setup with sticks and platform are just as heavy, bulky, and metal as a climber...then it defeats the purpose of a saddle entirely.and any one who can do gradeschool math will want to switch,or switch back.

And yet people are adding a saddle to their stick and stand systems, and proclaiming it first rate.

If you could put a climber in any tree, I'd say you're right but, the lack of tree selection for a climber will make the climber not even an option in my brain.
