Been trying different strap on hooks and such for places where you can't screw into a tree. Haven't been real happy with them. Then I noticed the tag end in my tree strap. Perfect!

Doesn't stick or wedge inbetween limb/string? In MI we can't use anything that penetrates the cambium layer to facilitate climbing. I take that to mean screw in bow hook is acceptable. Are you sure they aren't allowed in your state?

I'm positive. No metal objects, screws, nails, Spurs into tree. No cutting branches or vegetation either and everything is covered in vines. No flagging tape or reflectors. Pretty much you leave it as it was when you got there. Can't even collect sheds or arrowheads because that is considered property of the refuge or wma. But there is flagging every where and when you shine a light there is reflectors everywhere. So it really depends on the warden and how strict he wants to be and what chances you are willing to take.

With the lightness of the bow and the thickness of the 11mm rope, it does not pinch at all. Simply lift up on bow and the knotted end falls before you even get tension on it. On my bow anyway. Only problem I see is different diameter trees my put you bow hanging in a spot you don't desire but it hasn't been a problem yet. I also clip my back pack to the tree strap where it's wrapped around the tree with a carabiner at the 3oclock position.

FYI - The cambium layer is the inner bark. In other words, if you're screwing into wood, then you've penetrated the cambium. In most cases a screw-in bow hook would NOT be acceptable. The only instance where it would be acceptable is if the bark was so thick that you never penetrated the wood.

I know we're getting choosy here, but I think he meant that he can use a screw in bow hook because it doesn't "facilitate climbing".

Yes red, in fact we can use T screws to hang a stand that was originally equipped with one. The big hitter, they don't want trees with grown in steps.

That would be left to the discretion of the officer. I suppose you could make a case using that exact wording, but I also think an officer could make a case that a bow hook could be used to "facilitate climbing" in some way. Y'all are welcome to interpret the law however you want, but if a rule says not to penetrate the cambium layer, I'm using strap-on steps. It's not worth getting a fine over something that small, though I'm sure the fine would be the equivalent of a parking ticket.

I can't screw anything into my trees either. It's really not that big of a deal to me.

I like your simple solution.

Genius

My only hesitation with this is if I want to hang up my bow to move or adjust my tether. I was thinking about using one of my extra ameristeps as a strap on bow hanger. Will work great, but another thing to carry and set up.
The advantage of the ameristep is you can easily lift it off the hook.

But it probably easily lifts off of thick rope too. I've only ever hun my bows like this from thin accessory cord, amsteel or paracord. This might be the ticket.

THANKS...glad I used the search function

IMG_0119.JPG Here is my giant Carabiner with the gate removed and wrapped in hockey tape. The foam part was already in there...think I found this at dollar general.

You can easily slip it inside of the tree tether or a strap or daisy chain and hang your bow.

And what about a quiver holder, are ya'll just leaving it on the bow? I've ALWAYS shot without the quiver on the bow.. just like it. What is everyone doing with that?

I have ot give DIY Bowhunter props for the following bow holder though.. I made one of these as a bow holder and it's lite and strong. I covered it with fleece. It works.

This season I will mostly be using a SafariTuff Back/Side Quiver. I never like bow quivers. In previous seasons, I had a PVC Tube mounted to the side of my pack. I would just hang my pack with all the accessories attached to it and it had my arrows as well.

Wow! Great Idea! I've been trying to think of something easy like this. Just tried it and it's perfect!!! BTW when I was posting this a little buck ran by

After my first night in the saddle I think you have thre right idea using the Ropeman instead of a Prussic knot for your tree strap adjustment.

OMG! This is genius! I've been trying to figure attach a hook to my rope and then hang my bow on it! Bam! You have the answer right here! You deserve a cookie!
