Tree Hopper Crotch Rocket

I have each size. The large oak I had them in mind for was a fail. I preset with smaller crotch rocket preseason and stayed out until the rut. I got to the tree before sunrise and the platform was on the ground. The tree is huge and was a pain to preset due to the truck being too large to get my LB around. I use my rapel setup to tether in, but it was frustrating to toss it around that huge tree.

I have noticed mine tends to work it’s way out of the tree. Likes to “uncam” from staying flat unless you’re weight is on it sometimes. Maybe that’s what happened with yours. Expanding and contracting with the heat and cool of the day etc.

The more angle to the branches, the more this will happen. You definitely want them as vertical as possible.

I will also add both of mine are STEEL, not aluminum. This may come into play as I'm sure the camming pieces have much less play/flex in them than an aluminum platform...

Makes sense. Didn’t know there was a steel version.

Bear Creek and others were making these in steel in the 80's or before. I've never had one uncam once set, still see them occasionally at garage sales.

Nice. Amazing how some of this hunting product circles back around after a couple decades.

Is anyone using one of these in combination with rope climbing? Would this do well in that type of combination?
I have two of the old Bear River crotch stands that I use a four step aider that made 30 years ago. I carry two strap on steps if I need to get higher than 8 feet.

I've been looking at these and wondering if an aider hanging from bottom would make it easier to lock in and climb up on to?
I've been doing it that way for 30 years.

Old thread here I know, but finally after a year or two of owning the crotch rocket, I came upon a situation I could use it on a hunt. Pretty unique and was fun to hunt with! Only needed to get up a few feet off the ground to cover the whole field and worked like a charm.
