They are a type of plastic but I don't know the specifics of it. I do know that they are extremely strong. Mark did a breaking test with a 1,000 pound scale. The scale bottomed-out before the steps broke, so the break strength is over 1,000 pounds. For comparison, the (discontinued) Ameristeps broke somewhere around 400 pounds. What material are the steps made of?

Thanks for the heads up! Just called and asked him to add a few of those to my last order.Tree Hopper has an OCB that is heavily built. It isn't on their website though (have to call). They need to update their website.
My perfect set up is both a platform for comfort with three steps for mobility.
Those steps look sweet.
I use a daisy chain for attaching my predator. Do you think I could use steps on my daisy chain rope and then cam down my predator and have the two steps hold tight?
Can't hurt to try, if you don't mind a 30 buck experiment.
I climb with Tree Hopper steps on amsteel daisy chains that I get tight with a trucker's hitch (not quite as tight as an OCB or a daisy chain after camming down a platform.....but tighter than a normal cam buckle).
The issue I foresee with your idea is that the step can rotate up and down on the thin amsteel. In comparison, a strap provides pressure over an inch and keeps them flat to the tree unless you REALLY try to pry them up. This isn't a big deal when just using them to climb. And it might not be an issue for you if you are mostly on the platform but only step over (carefully?) onto the steps momentarily to take a shot.
If you buy 2 tree hopper steps and it doesn't work out, then you are almost half way to a true ring of steps.
good point. I can’t imagine I would like a ROS more then my predator but the ROS guys are convincing that I should try it out
I’m a spurs guy mainly but I’ve thought of itTried this?
If you climb with sticks, then put your top stick at platform height and on the side you'd like to step over to.
Gotta be careful. Sticks are not designed for side pressure they will kick out. Not that they will go anywhere but still its an uneasy feeling when one doesTried this?

I found it more than "an uneasy feeling". The "diaper" statments took on a whole new meaning that day!Gotta be careful. Sticks are not designed for side pressure they will kick out. Not that they will go anywhere but still its an uneasy feeling when one does

You could definitely do that on a stick. Guys are definitely doing this using the .5 as a platform. So if using the stick with a platform or worried about kickout from side pressure, why not add a second strap near the bottom to help secure it? I use just the stock strap on my heliums and tie the knot around the button instead of using the spring buckles. Extra strap wouldn't use that much weight.
