treehopper step timber hitched with flat webbing?

To each his own, but I'm not afraid of the recall steps. But I don't climb with them. I only use them for an extra step on my platforms.
But there is more to the Treehopper step than just strength. They are more stable on the tree and also stack.
Plus they are readily available right now. No cruising classifieds to find them.

The ameristeps are not part of the recall, so hoping for the best since I’ve already purchased.

So the treehopper stack as a ROS or as a climbing system. I mean does the step and attachment method attach where you can just take one off the stack and start climbing or is there still rope/web management to do?

They definitely stack on the strap as a ROS application, and stack without a strap.
They will stack with each one on its own individual strap, but it could get a little clumsy managing the multiple buckles?? IDK, the only straps I have in hand are the OCB combo. I'm betting it would work pretty well if he converts to his Speed buckle.

We should all put our heads together until we find something that works as well as a cam buckle but isn't made of steel and so heavy. Right now, those cam buckles are as heavy as the step. If you do away with the cam buckle, then 12 of those treehoppers only weight 3 lbs (going off specs from manufacturer). Adding cam buckle straps about doubles that (which just seems nuts for some reason).

Maybe we need the rope mod/versa button version for steps, perhaps, not exactly like that but similar in being able to torque on a strap or rope and then not lose that tension as you go about locking it in.

This works for me

The “Button Runner”. A 0.8 oz silent step attachment. **EDIT** read warning

I have a feeling after everything I tried this still will not get the step tight enough to the tree but I may be wrong let me know. I looked at Bullman’s cam straps 6 weigh a pound. So with 12 treehopper steps and 12 cam buckle straps puts you at 5lbs give or take of course. Hard to beat that when you can get 20 plus feet.

Just got my tree hopper steps in. I used some 5’ cam buckle straps that I had laying around. They secure to the tree nicely and even better with an OCB for a ring of steps...really solid! Four steps with cam buckles weights 2lbs and 2lbs 2oz in DanO’s satchel bag. Do the math that’s a little over 6lbs that can get you above 20 feet. That’s tuff to beat! I’ve always liked using steps over sticks because I feel they are more versatile than sticks. Plus they are easier to carry in a small bag or fanny pack no more sticks getting caught in brush etc. I really like that when you pick a tree you simply open you bag start attaching and climbing. No setting things on the ground to unpack and then reattach. Also because the steps are plastic no metal to metal noise. This is really a nice way to run and gun set up.

Just started looking at these for my son to use with his JX3 to give him some more movement. Definitely am liking the price point on these.

Can you show how to use the ocb buckle and step that comes with the treehopper ROS?

That hitch is designed for the rope to loosen ,or more correctly...extend)a small amount to create the friction that locks it all together. I haven't used a step but I attach my climbing method with a timber hitch and no matter what I do you cant get it super tight....your anchor loop of the hitch will move toward the applied load everytime (loosen the knot but tightening the knot at the same time??....weird)

I don't see them on the website unless I am missing them?
It shows as the 1st product when I looked.
Not sure if I cut and pasted the link correctly. I hate cut and paste with a phone...this might be the link.
I reposted with the computer. Here is the link to the steps.

Treehopper has brought back the very popular strap injection molded step. We have completely redesigned them to be very strong, stable, comfortable, ergonomic, and to pack and stow easily that have been offered
The Treehopper strap on steps enjoy the following benefits over the steps of yesteryear:
The color is a better match for tree bark (Wolf Gray in color).
They nest together for easier transport (The wings nest in the strap slots)..no clanking around in pack to and from hunting spot.
They are rock solid on the tree… instead of a smooth surface interfacing with the tree, we’ve included serrations and also made the base wider.
They are ergonomic (with have a pistol grip feel).
They are extremely strong. They were designed with safety in mind. We did side by side testing with the previous injection molded steps that were available for years and very popular. We found that they were failing (breaking) in the 300- 400 lb. range and these were their steps, that weren’t subject to the recall. We did a tremendous amount of testing through the design process on the Treehopper steps …We heated them to over 200 degrees and subjected them to temps well below freezing and applied force until they failed. We, even early on, were getting capacities double that of the “other steps”. We didn’t stop there. We continued to redesign and reinforce areas to (continue to) increase their capacity. We are now exceeding 1050 lbs. and are not getting failures!
By filing down one of the wings they can be altered to nest together with the strap. Call for details.

I see the steps, but I don't see the strap for sale? I don't believe the strap comes with them.

You have to call. He gets things faster than he updates his site. Strap doesn't come with them.

The strap is available, but I'm not sure how Mark prices it with the strap. You need to call him. I edited my earlier post and it now has the link attached.
Marks website has, and still does, leave a bit to be desired. I've been on him about it for over a year. His products are great. His customer service is great. His concern for customer satisfaction is great, too. But his website...needs work.

Thanks! I will give him a call when I get a chance.

Can always go with this strap... I personally prefer the cam over buckle.
