Turning a 3 step stick into a 2 step

for three sticks, with 1/4" amsteel attached to a versa button, one long aider, and two small bungies to keep it together - total weight is right at 7 #s.... my kitchen food scale measures it at 7.01 I believe. I think my actual sticks are running very close to 2.1 - 2.2 pounds per stick.I know this, I do not feel the weight when added to my pack. I could probably shave a few ounces off by drilling some additional holes throughout the stick and reducing the versa button down just a tad, I could also use amsteel to make my moveable aider and get this system to around 6.5 pounds - but why? there comes a time when good enough is, well, good enough. I remember the days of trying to lug steel climbing sticks into the woods... I am forever grateful that I have a 7 pound system that allows me to climb any tree I want and get to a very reasonable height (if I want to go higher it is easy to one stick it once or twice to get to any height I would ever want to get to).

Truth is if that I want to further reduce weight for my hunting system the #1 place I can get the most bang for my buck lies just south of my bellow button - and I am working on that down 34 pounds since Sept.

Good deal. Thank you Dave.

I am wanting to shave as much weight as I can where I can. I get tired of carrying 40 lbs in the woods to hunt. I rarely hunt close to the truck and usually have extended hunts because it’s just not worth hunting that far in and only staying a few hours so I try to make the sit as comfortable as possible ie clothing, drinks, food whatever. A lot of Tn is hills and hollars so you could cross several. Along with creeks. So I over prepare

Congrats on the weight loss

I have been on and off for almost a year now. I lost 30 plus last winter gained 40 back and I’m back in the gym now and trying to eat right. I need to change my lifestyle not be on a diet.

can I ask how you cut them, how you measured the distance the bolt went from the outside of the stick, etc?

I have a set that I plan on doing after the season.

Daniel

I cut my sticks with a miter saw with a carbide blade.
