I don't even want to know how much I've spent, while it would be some what important and responsible to know I am afraid it would take a lot of the fun out of it. It certainly would if my wife knew how much.....gotta run it like the govt. Purchases under the block ops account is not disclosed.

Y’all just trying to scare folks off. You don’t have to spend that much to get started. Where your addiction takes you after is a whole separate thread.
I was just trying to show him 1000 is over kill. You can get set up for under 700 easily plus if you don't like the saddle resale is still there. That should not scare you off when you think that you don't have to move stands if you only hunt out of a saddle (I 100% did that this year), a good mobile setup is not much less (stand 300, still need sticks $130, harness $100) plus your carrying in more awkward weight.

I was buying 2 or 3 ladder stands every year to build up my stands before I went mobile, I now save that money every year (if I don't keep modifying my saddle setup). I spent a lot of time away from the family moving stands and cutting lanes and now I never have to move stands and almost lever cut lanes. Of all my extra curricular activities saddle hunting was the easiest sell to my wife. So easy it was the first hunting gift that I can remember that she bought me.

Niko has a nice breakdown here. I don’t want to crush your diy spirit, if you are inventive and can use friend’s equipment, finding a free sewing machine etc. then you can get make a saddle for very cheap (I spent about 30 bucks in metal for my first platform and used friends tig welders and 50 bucks on my first saddle) but it took a lot of time. You could just as easily spend all this time doing a side job and just buy one. The DIY guys here generally like tinkering and get a sick and twisted satisfaction from making and using their own gear at all costs

Does it have to be anything special as far as the sewing machine or do you need something commercial grade for this?

I hear ya. I have a few hobbies and that’s how I roll with the wife. I shoot pool, fish, hunt,(obviously), guns, etc. etc. you can’t shoot pool with just one stick or go shooting with only 5-10 guns, you have to have at least a half dozen rods and reels. Lol. This saddle deal has caught my attention for a lot of reasons hence the name AccPrnHunter( accident prone hunter) thanks for taking the time to respond. I do appreciate it! Good hunting & be safe!

There is a lot of info about this on this site but either a commercial machine or an older singer style machine (singer 15, 200, 201, and the associated clones) which are heavy duty and all metal parts. Like I said, it takes a lot of time to figure all of this out. The home machines made after 1970 usually (but not always) won't quite cut it.

Yeah mine is sold on the saddle idea because of the fact that it’s so much safer. Hence the name AccPrnHunter (accident prone hunter)

@always89y , that is amazing that you get all of what you have done on this site with just the 4452. Wife is still mad at me for breaking ours beyond repair in less than 2 months of owning it. Got it for Christmas, already in the junk pile.
Man, that sucks. Ive had no problems out of this thing since day one. Maybe you guys just got a dud? Or I got really lucky!
