I think they 100% react from the sound of the bow, not the arrows hissing as they fly. I watched his video and the whole time I'm thinking that sure quieter is better but I still can't imagine a deer hearing the arrow in flight and reacting as quick as they do. Sure, the sound of the bow, isn't coming much in advance of the sound of the arrow, but it's still the first noise to alert them.

I recorded arrow travel and impact at the target with the solid and vented (wide) head. I can tell a slight difference (at least I think I can) but it’s very subtle.

I asked my wife to listen to both and she thinks I’m crazy. She can’t hear the difference.

Does the IW make much noise in flight?

The vented IW are the loudest broadhead I have ever shot. I imagine the solids are good though. Like others stated-they hold their edge very well and fly true.

I wonder if arrow speed has something to do with that. I recorded the vented wide cut and solids today. The difference is very subtle. The solids are completely silent, all you can here is the impact. The wide cut (vented) sound similar to all the replaceable blade heads I’ve shot previously. Not silent, subtle but detectable hiss.

Iron Will is a great option. I’m extremely impressed with edge retention. 40+ shots into a target and still shaves hair effortlessly. Some BH’s won’t do that brand new.

Interesting. I’ve used ramcats for the past 3 seasons and never noticed any extra noise from them, nor did I have deer jump the string. I’ve had nothing but good results with them. Maybe it’s just the super duper high FPS you’re shooting, g2????

All that said, I do plan to try out a solid single bevel broadhead this year. Really like the idea of a super quiet bow shooting a heavy, silent arrow!

I got a chance to put the new Iron Will wide cut to the rest yesterday on our state archery Axis opener. 15 yard shot from the ground, double lung. She only made it ~40 yards, great blood trail.

Interesting. I've been shooting them for the past 5 years and never noticed them being noisy. Killed lots of deer with them but also snapped/bent many blades on them. You shooting helical or offset vanes?

How did the deer react when hit? Did she run for the hills hard or just scamper at the hit at first and then stop?

I’ve never seen an Axis deer not react to the sound of a bow regardless of broadhead choice. I only observed her the first few yards after the shot (very thick). But, given she only made it 40 yards she must slowed to a trot quickly. They’ll easily cover 100 yards most of the time.

Yeah, the island volcanic red dirt is like extra coarse sandpaper. It will definitely need to be resharpened.

Not sure that a shot like that is much of a test for the Iron Will. Seems like the cheapest aluminum-ferrule cone-tip knock-off would work when you put it through the boiler-room like that (although the cheap head might not survive to fly again, I suppose). Nice Job.

The shot busted out a huge chunk of scapula (just the paddle) and broke one rib. Nothing a slick trick couldn’t handle although the blades would be toast. Almost definitely a bent ferrule if it was aluminum. This IW steel ferrule spins true and like you said, blade can be touched up and back in the quiver.

Which ramcats did you try? diamondbacks or hydroshocks. The hydroshocks are the good ones IMO

only thing that really sucks about the hydroshocks is after the passthrough the heads are usaually toast. Too soft. But theyre cheap enough on amazon (24.00 or so) that its not a big deal. Fly amazing and awesome penetration
