That's what I thought too, he said it's not bad. I wouldn't use it, but he was more concerned with safetyWaayyy too heavy for me!
IMO that seems to be more about convenience than safety. Everyone knows that you aren’t going to break a climb rated quicklink. Don’t know how you get safer than that.but he was more concerned with safety
I meant more concerned about safety than the weight of it, but yea, I agree with the convenience part. Trying to make something he has on hand work as opposed to buying a proven tool.IMO that seems to be more about convenience than safety. Everyone knows that you aren’t going to break a climb rated quicklink. Don’t know how you get more safe than that.
I still haven’t understood why people are trying to replace a quick link. It works, it’s small, not heavy, and if you’re using the correct one it’s rated. If it’s because you don’t won’t to screw open or shut which only takes a couple seconds then That’s just lazy. Stop trying to invent the wheel.
Who needs a wheel, just keep walking. It's safer and better for you.Stop trying to invent the wheel.

Agreed. This experimenting with tethers away from known safe solutions makes me nervous.
Waayyy too heavy for me!
Wait …. A carabiner is too heavy? We’re worrying about the weight of a carabiner now? If ever get concerned about a carabiner too heavy, I think it’ll be time to give up hunting. If I can’t carry a carabiner, I don’t how I’d ever haul a deer out of the woods.
I think we’re going overboard with the ultra light stuff

Mike, it's a STEEL carabiner on a tether!
It would constantly be falling down the tree...
How heavy do you think it is? Ten pounds? It’s just a carabiner.
Semper Fi
I would guess a touch less than 2 ???
Well, some might think this is ALOT of overkill, but a rock climbing friend suggested this one to me, & I have to say that I really like it for the quick link on my rappell line/tether. Because of it's "twist," I'm always able to keep the gate away from the tree, and the extra weight makes it a "1 throw" evolution around big trees, which I seem to favor. The weight also helps break the hitch free once I'm on the ground.
