Had the thought while standing at the post office today shipping out 3 different saddlehunting-related packages that USPS/UPS/FedEx really have made out well from this expensive hobby of mine.

Any mathematicians out there want to take a crack at estimating how much saddlehunting has put into the pockets of these companies over the past couple years with all of our crazy buying/shipping/re-buying/re-selling cycle of madness? Too bad there isn’t a rewards program or I’d be a platinum member..

Anyone else ever have thoughts like these or just me? Lol.

Can we please change the subject
My wallet starts hurting just reading the letters UPS
Try shipping out something high value that you want to insure. Adds $10s of dollars to the overall fee shipping fees!!! I'll have to say though, I do generally get a tad better pricing via UPS than USPS!!

Let’s assume 20,000 people have bought into “saddle huntjng” as a thing. Probably higher. Then tack on most members of AT and Rokslide.

conservatively, 100,000 people doing about 10 transactions a year on average. 15.00 average cost. 10 years of this nonsense.

conservative number 150mil. My guess is probably double that.

this is why I get annoyed at people when they yell at Tethrd for being naughty evil company. I don’t like some decisions they’ve made, and been somewhat vocal early on. But I’m smart enough to see that companies like them, and all the others that have popped up producing the ridiculously niche and unnecessary gear we buy, are what keeps the American economy growing.

that better keep up. When my generation and the two after stop making enough babies to keep it going, we’ll need it even more…

I add insurance to every package I ship especially with USPS because we’ve had a lot of really bad experiences with them.

doesn't help with the outrageous rates that are being paid to USPS and especially ups drivers. My brother is a city carrier on track to make nearly 100k this year because of the OT. I know multiple ups drivers making nearly and some above 40 an hr. I'm all for people making as much cash as they can, but someone driving around all day putting packages in front of your door in no universe is a 40 buck an hr job.

I might beg to differ in that. At least in the UPS case. Imagine dropping off a van full of packages when it’s -25 for a high. Or when there’s a foot of snow and the roads or sidewalks haven’t been cleared.

I used to feel the same but when our UPS guy started to show up as I was putting my kids to bed and STILL carrying a good attitude- I asked, why are you working so late. A response to the tune of- can’t stop until the truck is empty or something was returned. The guy has a family too but is still out slogging your saddle gear around.

I’m also willing to bet sticking a different person in there at a lot lower per hour rate would be much less reliable and probably care way less about what they were doing which would likely lead to less success on deliveries. I’ll bet retaining good employees now adays has got something to do with that pay scale too.

That's the job he was hired to do. Do it or don't. It's unskilled labor. Not saying the guy doesn't work hard or should be paid nothing. But 40+ nope. And their union contract is currently getting reevaluated I believe to pay them even more. And that doesn't take into the insane OT rate they get. The drivers in peak season from Oct to January alone make close to 50k if not more. That's why your shipping costs keep going up and up. Combine that with fuel costs and it's gunna get uglier

Gonna bitch about a guy making 100k with overtime. No wonder the middle class is gone. That's not even considered middle class.
You probably complain about people on welfare too... gotta choose between good paying jobs or big brother subsidized society.

Go Teamsters...

Simply stating the reality of why shipping is so expensive and will continue to get moreso. Like it or not

Supply and demand.... I myself am loving this employee revolution where people have realized the power they have as employees... now if u (read "us")as the consumer takes a stance and refuses to buy at this price, you force the corporate fat cats to take less of a cut to keep their business profitable.. which I am fine with...

I isn't the guy making 100k working overtime. It's the top sitting on their arse thinking they deserve millions.
Simply stating the reality...
