Well there goes that opportunity to get a velvet buck. They voted 7-1 to make the non-resident season start on October 1st instead of keeping it at September 1st with the residents. This is disappointing, but least I got to try last year.

I'll probably try to go out there for a mule deer rifle hunt in a couple years, but otherwise this takes them off my list completely.

Kentucky and North Dakota for velvet bucks?

I’ve killed several. In the past. Wouldn’t kill one now by choice, if I do it will be with a bumper.

I think Nebraska archery season starts September 1st? Should still be in velvet maybe?

Pretty dissapointed about this as well I had a second trip with 2 buddy's planned for opening week again and with this last minute change to the regulations we are sort of screwed because application deadlines are over for basically every other state for an early hunt like that. It was an absolute blast as a first western trip for a bunch of east coast guys. We were able to get it done on the last day of a 9 day hunt in the last half hour of shooting light! I hope to hunt there in September again one day!

Tennessee started a early velvet hunt last year. This will be the 2nd year for it. August 23,24,25 this year. Private land only except for in the new cwd zone. Cwd zone public lands are open and mzzldrs can be used.

SC opens on 8/15 for rifle in the southern half of the state. Problem is they destroy the buck population and it's hard to get anything but a yearling.

August in South Carolina has to be brutal. Is there much public land?

Since we're on the topic of velvet hunts. Here is footage of last weekends hunt in TN. Please subscribe! Thanks guys!

I bow hunted SD last year for the first time and it was my favorite hunt to date. This year they changed unit 35l to 100 non res tags... I’m glad I got to hunt it once.

Gotta help the deer pop. Prob for the best
