Video on how I one stick

I climb with 1 Muddy stick with a multiple step aider and instead of tether I use my climbing line and a means to descend. With your method the possibility of losing the stick and being stranded up the tree although you mentioned having a fastener between you and the stick. I know with the system I use I can be at hunting height in just 3 movements of the stick/aider climbing rope combo. Great to see all this innovation in this department.

Excellent instructional video. We'll absolutely be testing this asap. Your time and effort are much appreciated.

You got this man. Just set your teather up right to start with. If it’s not right then you will struggle. If it’s not comfortable and easy then it’s not set right.

Will it work with a ropeman or just a prussic because of noise

I am getting together a 3 man group plus myself to split a set of (4) Muddy Pro sticks for one each...…..I currently have two others interested plus myself & we have room for another person that's interested in just a one stick purchase……...please PM if interested...…. Thx in advance!:sunglasses:

It will work with a ropeman. I just like a soft rope grab because there is times in the climb that I have 2-3 ft of slack in my teather and I don’t like the thought of the ropeman having to bite the rope from a 3ft fall. However I do use a ropeman on my linesman rope. I also don’t see an issue with the ropeman on my teather if I’m just hanging and not climbing. Just something to think about.

My hats off to you, Cain, for your constant innovation. I've been practicing your WE step method and now I'll have this to play with as well. I have a set of Muddy's that I'm glad now I haven't sold off; it boggles my mind how gear is always being re-purposed by the imaginative folks on this site.

ok guys ive been wanting to put this video up for a few weeks now. I first saw Cbigbear climb with one stick on YouTube so I decided to give it a try. I liked it ok but hanging in a rock climbing harness was not that comfortable to me. I think I hunted using this method twice and finally gave up on it. What I did like was the weight of just one stick.
After all of this light weight equipment that is being made , I decided to give one stickin another try. This time I would try it with a saddle. I found that I absolutely love climbing this way. It kinda puts the fun of saddle hunting into climbing. In this video I’m not trying to be quite or quick. It’s just for instructions on how I do it. I did however time myself the other day and I was at 19 ft in 2 minutes and 10 seconds. This is not set up time, just the top of my stick was at 19 ft. I also timed my self coming down and it was exactly 2 minutes and 10 seconds. I know this is not a race, just wanted to let yaw know how fast it could be done.
@Cain Great video. I just got muddy pro sticks and was climbing with them yesterday. Didn't try one sticking but found two sticks with a long aider worked well. I tied a loop in the end of my tether and put that around the top step of the stick above me then folded the step down (similar to how you did with your Cain Wild Edge climbing video) instead of wrapping it around the tree. Got 7-8 feet per stick. I was bringing the stick below me up with me, leap frogging them, and then setting them up at the top for my platform. I'm thinking I will carry two Muddy Pro sticks, a long aider, and the predator platform this year. That's a little under ten lbs for climbing method and platform. I'm going to try your one stick method though. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks. I’ve done something similar to your method. But without the aiders. Just set a stick as high as I could reach, girth hitched my teather around the top stick , then pulled my self up to the stick. 4 sticks got me about 28-30 ft. But I really didn’t love tying off that way.LoL.

Nicely done! I also use a friction hitch for this vs the ropeman, because as you climb the ropeman dangles and can bump the stick. I don’t like the chance of metal to metal contact. Like you showed you really don’t have to move the hitch once you have it right so you don’t get that much benefit with the ropeman there anyway. I was concerned about the fall distance a little bit so I now use a dynamic tether.

That’s right. Sometimes my carabiner hits my stick so since the video, I have wrapped my carabiners in that self adhesive wrap from tractor supply. When I get my new saddle it should be quieter as well because I want have to have a RC harness for a safety. Thanks

Cain would this be possible some how with a wild edge step?

No problem bud. Let me know how it works for you.

I have actually tried it with a WE step. It is doable. It just takes a lot longer. I used a step and a one step aider. I didn’t like it as well, but it can be done.

Lots of tying and untying right?
