Video on how I one stick

It can be done quieter than what I did it in the video with a little more effort. I just put my thumb on the cleats and control them so they don’t slam back in place as I remove the rope.

So these are spring loaded and you just remove tension with your thumb? I've always used the original LW strap on my stick for 1 sticking but this seems like it would be quicker moving up and down

It’s not necessary to use your thumb. They are spring loaded. All you have to do to get the rope out is just pull it straight away from the stick.

Great video. Thank you @Cain for another great video and sharing

Well done! I use a minimalist saddle myself, but never thought to use it on the one stick. I agree, hanging from the rch sucks!!! lol Really like the muddy stick for this with that cleat. Thanks for sharing.

Not sure how I had missed this but great stuff @Cain I may have to tinker with this some and see how it goes. I was always against one stick climbing but this may not be bad

@Cain Just wondering what was your absolute favorite method of climbing this fall. The one stick seems fast, light, not much noise or multiple pieces of equipment to use and safe because you are always tethered. And you can use it on any tree.
I wish I had put more effort into this method last fall.

I tried the cain one stick method with a hybrid It works well. IMO I think it may be way easier to use than trying to keep 3 sticks quiet and packing up and un packing three sticks.

What continues to amaze me again and again is how much what seems easy ends up looking a lot more difficult and what seems difficult at first ends up a lot easier.

Definitely gonna test this out for next season

Probably do a combination of styles.

Chopped heliums with multistep aiders to start up tree to around 20ft & then one-sticking with 4th stick to get higher.

ok guys ive been wanting to put this video up for a few weeks now. I first saw Cbigbear climb with one stick on YouTube so I decided to give it a try. I liked it ok but hanging in a rock climbing harness was not that comfortable to me. I think I hunted using this method twice and finally gave up on it. What I did like was the weight of just one stick.
After all of this light weight equipment that is being made , I decided to give one stickin another try. This time I would try it with a saddle. I found that I absolutely love climbing this way. It kinda puts the fun of saddle hunting into climbing. In this video I’m not trying to be quite or quick. It’s just for instructions on how I do it. I did however time myself the other day and I was at 19 ft in 2 minutes and 10 seconds. This is not set up time, just the top of my stick was at 19 ft. I also timed my self coming down and it was exactly 2 minutes and 10 seconds. I know this is not a race, just wanted to let yaw know how fast it could be done.
Looks simple, safe and easy. Thanks for sharing.

Ok so I made an aider, tied it to one of my minis and went out this afternoon and gave this a try. Wow, I like it. Really, really like it.

Put the stick on the tree then moved it up twice to get to the red line with the top step...

After the first move I decided to play with the lineman’s belt to see if it needed to be incorporated for safety. Decided it didn’t, but what I did find was that attaching the lineman’s to the stick strap in case it fell would be a good use of it....and when i moved up the next time I did drop it, lol, but it fell in my lap.

When I was back down (I figured climbing down would be sketchy....not so, climbing down is even easier IMO) and leaving I decided that the best use of the linesman is to attach it to the aider instead of the strap. By doing this you not only maintain a connection to the stick, but you now have a connection to the aider should it want to be difficult about letting you put your foot in.

Great method.

This method is what I have used the most this season. Ive used the WE step method on a few hunts. The one stick method allows me to climb as high as I want. That’s what really made me try the one stick. The weight was just an added bonus. When I one stick , I use the top of my stick as my “platform”. And attach 2 WE steps on each side of the stick Incase I want to walk around the tree. So it’s the stick at the 6 o’clock, a step at 3 o’clock, and step at 9 o’clock. I carry a WE step bag and it holds my 2 Steps, linesman rope, and tether for the walk in. After I’m set up I hang my WE step bag by my back pack and my quiver goes into my WE bag. Anyway sorry for the long post , but wanted to share how I set up. I also have an easier way to set the steps on the tree. But I think that would be better if I showed it in a video. Maybe I can do that in a few days. Thanks

@Cain, I owe you for presenting this video. It convinced me to retry the one stick process after a bad experience using old DIY equipment. This method proved to be my go to all year as well. Other than a few times using the WE stepps (Cain method again!) I used the single stick exclusively. It allows me to tailor my height for whatever situation I'm setting up in and leaves next to zero evidence on the tree that I've been there. I've modified my climb method slightly from yours but it's effective for me. I'm typically at height (generally about 25') and completely set to hunt in less than 15 minutes. I'm using the predator platform and leaving the stick on the backside of the tree to step to if I need to walk around. Thanks Chris!
