Virginia group chat/possible meet up?

@VASteve I appreciate it, but I have the same. Seems like these guys that travel a lot to hunt encourage a Pelican or SKB case. Something super tough, dust proof, and water tight. Don’t want your bow to end up like OceanGate when the flight crews get ahold of it. I don’t know, this will be my first time flying to hunt.

Do tell. Where are you going???

I do as well. It's a plano. Never used. I'd let it go for $80. I believe you are near me (SW Va. - Roanoke), so I would meet you. PM me if interested or just want to see.

Not stepping on Red Beard, just giving options.

Also forgot to mention, this is a crossbow case.

I hunt white oak a handful of times a year. My mom-in-law lives in Danville. What do you want to know? It gets hit hard and it is one of the few WMA's that allows running deer dogs, not happy about that.
Have you bow hunted White Oak in the early season? Was it crowded then? I rode through there a few months ago and really love this area. A bit far for me but I plan on putting an early season hunt or two there.

I've never been to White Oak but anyone have any info or hunted Adams Daniel Farm just north of Danville in Blairs, VA? I drew a quota hunt there.

Up at 0400, headed to the tree by 0530....thought I was up early enough to leave my old buddy "Murphy" at home --- how wrong I am. But the view is nice...

Alright, Boys. Its game time. Tryin to figure out when I should hit the all day sits. The "Hunters Moon" is today. 3 days following is always good (allegedly). That would be the 31st / 1st. The temps in SW Virginia are gunna drop hard on the 1st. with a Bar Pressure climbing through the roof from the night of the 31st. until the morning of the 2nd, peaking at around 9am. Rising all day and night on the 1st. Looks really really good!

BUT! Last year in SW Virginia the 8th and 9th were absolutely ridiculous in the whitetail woods. I think I could have done jumping jacks while playing a stereo in the woods and the bucks wouldn't have cared.

Help think me through this! What are you guys planning on doing?

I have been holding back 2 days of vacation time that I have to burn by years end. Keeping a close eye on that forecast but Wed and Thursday are looking like a good time to burn them here in Central VA. I have two spots I have been saving for ideal conditions like next week. Plus that’ll lead me into a long weekend with start of smoke stick season.

Covering the spread with the 31st thru the 12th off.

Driving around SW Va., I'm seeing several bucks killed by vehicles, sure indication action is ramping up. Around the house, the coyotes have moved back in the area. They usually do this because of all the road kill.

I'm definitely there Monday afternoon. Based on the results of that hunt, may go Tuesday morning or at the very least Wednesday evening. From Monday on, every chance I get I will be in the woods. So pumped!!

Typically I don’t have this problem but this year I’ve got the Colorado trip planned. With travel days included, I’ll be gone 7 days. But I think I can take off the 3rd through the 9th and just hit it hard. I’ve already got two in the freezer, so I can really focus on a good one.

This weekends heat wave has felt more like spring turkey hunting than deer season. The cold front Tuesday should kick things off.
