Virginia group chat/possible meet up?

Hey everyone,
new hunter with a crossbow in Loudoun, but frequently travel to VA beach as well. Saw the meetup post

I also want to learn the one stick climbing method. I have whatsapp/groupme but not telegram. I am a noobie to hunting but can't seem to find a how to climb/repel lesson or all in one kit. If there is a meetup day hopefully it gets posted in here!

Hey Tom. This doesn't seem to be the most active thread. Someone wants everyone to use telegram for some reason instead of just using this thread. To each his own on that one.

For the information on climb/repel, I would suggest to take some time and search through youtube for instructional information.

oh its one of THOSE threads haha. Yeah I watched a bunch and want to go from blinds and popups to a saddle with repel. I'm confident I could figure out but hands on experience with the knots and methodology always works best for me. thanks for the heads up about the jist of the thread though :(

I’d be happy to show you the “ropes” on one sticking when you are in town. Biggest problem I have is finding a tree to climb in town. Zack Davis said he had a few in his yard, he might be willing to loan us a tree for an afternoon.

Late to the party...summer swim team and lacrosse just ended...I have a few minutes free before school sports start.

Great idea and I'm now following the thread from the NW area of Prince William County.

Can you give me a lesson? Interested in trying it out before buying this tethrd kit

Welcome. I’m in Culpeper County. I’ll be primarily hunting Rapidan but Phelps is an option if I’m short on time.

For the new folks checking in, most of the guys are on the Telegram app. Link to the chat group on Telegram are on the second page of the thread.

Heard about Rapidan WMA...do you really need a 4×4? Phelps is my go to spot...although I want try Thompson early in the archery season this year. My first trip last year was during rifle.

Depends on where you go but it’s likely you will need it to get back into some of the areas. I’d offer the option to meet up at the entrance or gas station and carpool in if anyone wanted to do a pack style hunt.

Thompson would be nice. I scouted some real nice spots this off-season as well but decided to focus on just one since I’m new to both WMAs.

I work in Manassas and live in Ruther Glen. Could maybe find some time to meet up to go over one-sticking and SRT.

Semper Fi,
Mike

Once my kids get settled into school I may try and throw together a physical meet up again but most likely It’d have to be on Sunday as my Saturdays will be hijacked by kid stuff. If it were to be a Saturday it’d have to be late in the day.

@cville_bowhunter I’m totally gonna threadjack.
I threw up a different post but I’ll put it here too, if any of you fine folks are interested in coyote hunting let me know. I help out a rancher with population control and he has a pasture out in The Plains that has significant coyote activity. The person that owns the property hears them nonstop at night and wants them gone. If anyone is interested PM and we’ll sort out the logistics. If you think you can get close enough with a bow great but firearms are preferable.

So, confession, i used to saddle and bow hunt, but gave up on both. For the amount of work I personally wasnt more successful than I was during early muzzleloader. I also hunt NF so trekking all over with that weight sucked.

So i sold out! But i have a mountain climbing harness i use for my ladder stands on private property - cant go full body ever again - and ill lean back time to time.

If anyone is around central Virginia and new to hunting - happy to help share wisdom as Ive been doing this for 30 years. I joined the forum for classifieds and just enjoy the chats about hunting!
