Looking into becoming a saddle hunter. But what saddle should I get for first timer 50 years old and lumbar pain issues. Herd saddle will help with pain

What's your budget? Do you have other equipment already like climbing sticks you plan to use or do you need all the accessories as well?

Here you go:
Where do you hunt? Your profile doesn’t list the state but if you hunt where it’s cold probably should size up. Also for a bad back look into a back band. Jx3 is also an option

My back is trashed, I can’t sit at a picnic table for 2 minutes and no way a tree stand, this will be my first year hunting out of a saddle but can you tell you if your back is like mine I feel like a million bucks after hanging in that thing, I don’t know why or care but it actually makes mine feel good. I bought a cruzr xc.

Google search Mark Dohring youtube, he has a ton of reviews and easy to understand videos that helped me decide

That’s why I’m thinking of making the switch.

I wanted to be more mobile, that’s why I did a bunch of research and got into it, I had no idea about the comfort, I can’t even ride in certain vehicles comfortably, this saddle is gonna be a game changer for me this fall to stay on stand longer, I used to have to stand in my regular tree stands when I used them.

Welcome to the site! Check out the saddle hunter map & see if you can get with someone near you to try some different saddles out. I agree with the backband, my back is shot & im waaaay more comfortable in a saddle than a stand & my run & gun set was a millennium so it wasn’t terrible just different than the saddle.

Budget is open. Only have sticks

anyone On here will Tell you that you’re going o have to either find someone who has a couple to try out, do some review research on what you’re looking for, or fork out the money for several options and find what you like only to sell the rest. The saddle that fits my body type may not fit yours. Your comfort is going to be different than the next guys. I’ve got the phantom from Tethrd and love it... I’d second the suggestion of watching the good review video above and making a decision based off of what you’re personally looking for

Welcome! I am also in NW Ohio and may be able to let you check out the Mantis in the near future. I also have met someone in Indiana recently who has a variety that may be willing to meet up to try some out.

I’ve tried several and I still think the aero flex is the most comfortable. I’ve had back surgery and knee replacement and I can sit very comfortably for an extended period of time. But it does come down to personal preference. It’s a hard thing to determine when you have so many people that have input. If you can find an area where you can meet up and try different saddles that’s the best if not. Your relying on opinion. Think it also comes down to what you want to pay. They all have pro’s and Con’s. Good luck!

My vote goes to the JX3. I switched from a original trophyline to a Guidos web many years ago because my back and knees were uncomfortable in the trophyline. The web gives me the comfort to sit still and comfortable for all day sits. And the JX3 is definitely a step up from the web.

I am in Southern Michigan so it might be possible to meet up.

I've had ongoing back issues for ten years and tried saddle hunting for the first time last season and I will not bow hunt from anything else. I started with a sit drag that I modified to get me started and went to a Trophyline Ambush and couldn't be happier. I did multiple all day sits in a row during the rut last year and it's way more comfortable than my hang on type stands. Not to mention I would have never got into the trees that I did to kill the deer i was after with anything else.
