WE Step Bag Modifications

That's right. Primarily the swaider because it's longer and you don't want a shift off center if the step should move or if the step wasn't put on level. I just experimented with using 3 zip ties on the step but didn't like it. I've never had a problem with knaider slipping but thought I'd give it a try. The reason I didn't like it was because it made the rung to crowded. The important part is to keep the swaider centered, and help keep it from sliding on the bare metal rung. Just a wrap of vet tape helps with that also, but with the zip ties, zero possibility.

well the individual wrapping of the lines definitely helps with rope management. Even coming down wrapping them individually didnt add much.

i just yesterday wrapped my steps in medical fabric tape and have already scraped it off with the swaider biner. guess ill be upgrading with the zip ties as well.

didnt even notice they were on @ericabbott above. seems common then...must work.

thanks again guys!

Here's the best I can do on the zip tie mod for the wild Edge stepp

This is a great idea. Is that just electrical tape before the camp wrap?

I put a healthy wrap of electrical tape around the biner where it contacts the rung of the step. This cushions the the biner and reduces wear considerably on the vet tape wrap. I also when I wrap my zip ties in electrical tape I wrap in between the zip tie also, it cushions the rung and quiets the hook up more, as you can see in the previous pics I posted.

It didn’t change anything for me. Wrapping them in vet tape made them more difficult to get into the bag.

Not sure how much vet tape you were using but I found that if I took about a 6 inch long piece and cut it in half width wise it wrapped tighter and was less bulky around the step. I did the same with the wraps around the stand off, only difference is I used about a foot long piece and cut that in half. It didn't seem to change how they went into the bag except for the fact that it made them quieter going in and coming out.

As thin a layer as I could get. I’m not worried about them fitting in the bag, I’m going to add your thread modification near the bottom of the bag and an adjustable strap near the top and ditch the zipper entirely. Right now I can get 5 wrapped stepps and a 4 stepp aider in a 5 stepp bag and zip it up with difficulty. Modification should eliminate that issue. Also eliminates any noise from the zipper.
Thanks for the electrical tape mod, I tried that yesterday and worked like a charm, no movement on the zip ties and the carabiner stays firm on the tape.

Just did the zip tie modification myself. Plan to get another climb in on lunch today (I work from home).

I'll probably end up doing some sort of strap on the top as well, eventually. The zipper does make a decent amount of noise when it's got tension on each side of the bag

Only a couple weeks until season open, but looks like it will still be too warm for me to go out so probably 3 or 4 weeks until the temp drops and its game time. My plan now is to start practicing at night in the dark with just a red lamp and see how it changes things.

Two hunts with the new bag configuration and so far so good. Much easier and quieter than the zipper. I added stealth strip to the backside of the bag, to cut down on the scraping noise when it shifts against my side as I walk. I’ll let you know if I make any further mods.
Ive always thought about some sort of horizontal attachment so the bag doesnt swing around. I put the bag strap over my right shoulder and bag hanging on my left side across my chest. anytime I bend down or turn the bag swings forward or backward. Not a major inconvenience, just figure while youre on a roll id throw it in haha

LOL was just thinking that was the next issue to tackle. It is a pain in the butt especially when you're climbing the tree, keeps getting in the way of my LB loop.

I tried the method KyleR1945 used to add some camo fabric to the outside of the bag, adding a little reservoir tip at the bottom to hold all the ropes with them deploying out of the bottom. I followed his recipe and did the exact same thing he did, just showing pictures of finished product. I reached out to Kyle to ask just how he cut the bottom out, and he said he basically just cut a patch out of the bottom, keeping the bottom seam intact, so I did same, and included that in the pics (bag mod 3). He also suggested taking the pictures as the great video he made didn't show detail of the bottom. One minor change I did use was a tighter fabric to be snag resistant as there are brambles galore up here in southeastern CT, thought this might slide through them a little better, I keep it up on high on my back anyway till I get to my climbing tree. All seamstress creds to my wife who patiently gutted out all my input....haha Here you go:

Nice. Quite the thread injector. I'd like to get into the game soon
