WE Step Platform Tweak

@pesqimon , that metal step looks good on there. I wonder if the super smooth "tree" played a role in the step shifting when you added the metal step. I will try a less firm cam over today to see what happens.

Sorry it took me so long. And sorry the video was way darker than I thought, and a little far away. But you get the idea. If you need me to get closer and brighter with camera I can. I'll have this setup on the trip with me this weekend too to get a little run.

@Peterk1234 your steps are going out tomorrow sorry buddy!

Let me know if you have any questions. I think I'm going to go with two stepp platform with one ameristep on each this should work out nicely. I'm going to melt and flatten the ends of all my ropes so I can thread easily at the tree or in the tree.

Also @Nutterbuster I really think this is the answer to your ultralight setup for a tether. I have an adjustable bridge right now but even without this should fit the bill for any tree 18" and under. If you're going bigger, you could maybe carry a couple slings to girth hitch to add length.

@kyler it looks solid enough. I am looking forward to the steps! So, do the ameristeps end up much lower than the WE step or is it not really noticeable?

I agree with you that you want to be able to attach it on at the tree. I have been looking high and low for something that you hook on to the rope and not have to thread, but no luck yet. I think that is what @drew13 was trying to accomplish with the cranford step in another thread. I suppose you could cut a slot into an ameristep but it would probably weaken it too much.

I wonder if we slid a piece of flat stock through the ameristep that had two vertical slots (one near each end of the bar stock) would do the trick? I will take a look at doing that when they arrive.

Are you gonna hit the ends of the rope with a lighter and then crush in a vice or do you have a better way to flatten the rope?

Yup, that is what I accomplished with the cranford rope on step - I can hook the cranford onto the stepp rope with the stepp installed.

I have been playing with doing the same thing with an ameristep. Tried and failed at attaching a sort of hook onto the back of the step. Thought about cutting a slit in the step like @Peterk1234 mentioned - I think it might still be strong enough but have to bite the bullet and risk sacrificing a precious ameristep to try it!

I have another idea or two around this to try when time allows... will post my results. The cranford solution works and I will absolutely use it. Just always looking for options!...

@Peterk1234 the steps I have have that feature though I worry about it being too easy to drop. Perhaps the move is to have a bit of parachord tied to the step that you first loop through the WE rope... though if you drop the rope then it's all gone anyway....

I think you'll be satisfied with how little they move - again, no movement up and down. just a little side to side that would match any other attachment method besides possibly ratchet strap - the only one I can't confirm. This is a winner. Two stepps, one of which has two Ameristeps on it, will be my platform this weekend on a scout/observation/hunt trip. Will report back

Errr, head you say something about a different rope couldn't quite mature out what it was though.
