WE Stepps using Timber Hitch

The way the Amsteel lays across the top of the step it looks like filling in the area between rod and step at the top would be critical to keeping the Amsteel in good shape.

I did not use welding rod. I should have better explained in the beginning. The stuff I used I have also heard called drill rod.
Drill rod is much harder than cold rolled. Did you heat it up and then bend it?

I am definitely going to do this. Finally, some use for the Harbor Freight Amsteel clone I bought. It should save me a few ounces over the buckle strap. I was going to try a 5/16 inch bolt welded to the Primal step platform. Uh Oh. I just thought I may not have clearance with the platform in place. Time for thinking. :D

Damn.

I can maybe weld a bolt horizontally to the center rod and have it stick out the side.

It may be time to make that smaller platform I wanted.

Had to review some knot tying stuff after reading through this (how quickly we forget), and also came across the rolling hitch. Do you think it might be quicker and easier tie?
Besides tying, any thoughts on just using a whoopie sling?

I've tried the whoopie sling, it just has too much "set back" to get the proper tension. There's always that little little bit of give that occurs as the constriction happens.

I wonder if an amsteel daisy chain would work with the same tab welded on? You can twist/untwist a daisy chain to get the length pretty close to correct. I'd try but don't want to sacrifice a WE Stepp. I already have daisy chains for my sticks so it could potentially work as a dual purpose attachment method depending on me using sticks or WE Stepps.
