Hence the water knot is always supposed to be finished up with a barrel backup on both tail ends. A proper water knot is safe and industry standard in the climbing and mountaineering world.Just food for thought. I like reading all the posts on here and want you guys around to keep posting great ideas.

Overhand is very different than a watwr not. Watwr is a retrace overhaaand.Really? Could yall repost here for those without Crackbook accounts please?
IMHO, these homemade webbing tethers should be sewn as well as knotted.
Glad you are ok, being a father myself this is terrifying. Thanks for sharing. The season is quickly approaching and it's good to have safety reminders.
I have converted to a tubular style sling recently and probably check those tag ends every 5 mins right now lol. Scary thoughts about slippage. I took another members suggestion to use a stopper knot .I saw a guy on the saddlehunter facebook page just fell 20' in the last few days using webbing and an overhand knot. As I recall an overhand knot, and some folded the end over on itself and sewed it. I am no expert though.
