What’s the secret to climbing with a jx3 and lwhc?

You would know more than I as to John’s intentions regarding climbing methods, but I must say that it works perfectly when used in the “sit down stand up” method. Now, if only a manufacturer would produce a climbing platform specific to this use.

That’s right. I’m not saying it does or doesn’t work. Just that it wasn’t even considered in design. So if you encounter an issue, it’s not because someone screwed up. It’s that you’re doing something out of spec.

I was simply trying to clear up the statement that it’s not made for tall people so some tall feller doesn’t think he shouldn’t buy one.

Ive tried both multiple times. Leaving seat up causes strap pain for me.

The waist belt/leg strap system is not meant to be used to hang from for long periods of time. It’s there for keeping you in the thing in a fall.

I’ve thought about this though, and a sit drag type device might be perfect if you want flexibility of climbing with seat up, but he comfortable sitting for a minute. Would roll up in a pocket and weigh a few ounces. More kit is always annoying. But that’s what comes with trying to do weird things I guess

I thought same thing. Gonna try it with my recon at some point with seat up.

I fully agree. I’m 6’5”, and while I would love a JX 3 with a taller back rest, it still beats anything else on the market as is.

I've thought of using my Recon while 1-sticking and keeping the hybrid stowed until at height. So far it's been fine practicing using the JX3 by itself though.

As much thought went into it using it with a LWHC as did it being used by someone with a tall torso. Still a good product for what it is and for those that can shoot from it.

I’m 6’3, and I’ve had no issue shooting animals at almost every angle from it. I spend daylight to dark in it with no comfort issues. Based on what I’ve seen tall people can use it more effectively than short people.

What specifically doesn’t work for you being tall?

As a frame pack with heavy weight, maybe it won’t work for some folks. But that’s not tall or short. It’s just that it isn’t adjustable in the way a frame should be, and doesn’t have a padded hip belt. Those are easily fixed problems if you intend to haul weight.

With the waist belt appropriately around my hips and the sternum strap adjusted as far down as it goes on the shoulder straps to be in proper place, the sternum strap still sits too high. In other words, where the system wants to sit naturally puts the waist strap more around my stomach rather than the majority of the load weight on my hips/into legs by being around the hips. While climbing using LB with seat up, the system tends to ride up as well as when deploying the seat. I have to really pull down the seat to get seated back into it.
