What’s your rappel yank down?

Curious…how do you get your bow down? Separate rope?

Steve in Ky
I have a hero clip which basically has a big hook on one side, I lower my bow down to the ground with the Doyle’s and once it’s on the ground I feed slack into the line until the hook comes off the bow. Pull the rope back up and attach it to the rappel rope.

40' of Dynaglide, Rock Exotic mini biner (rated 5KN, so if you really yank on the line, biner won't break/cut loose), Innovating the Outdoors Ohm tether locker.

Dynaglide has a 900lb breaking strength....so almost double that of 550 paracord, and it's a lot thinner and slipperier, so less likely to hang up.

never had a problem with paracord either. Where are you tying it on and do you use a d-link or anything? i removed all hardware from my rappel rope and it pulls down easy and just less problems overall. i tie the pull down rope right to the end of the loop where its closest to the other side coming through.
The time it takes to fish the long end of the rappel rope through a tied loop is negligible compared to opening and closing that metal link. the metal also kpet annoying me when i didnt have weight on the rope it would fall down the trunk a little. with just the rope it cinches tight and stays there just like my ttether. i tried to use the rappel rope for my tether but found it a bigger PITA than it was help.
No problems with 550 cord either - I use a metal link that's used for flag poles, clipped on just behind the scaffold knot on a delta link. Wrap it up with figure 8 and haven't had any issues tangling or knotting. Also tried gutted 550 cord but it seemed to hold twists and knot up way too often to be worth it

Paracord has been fine for me. I climb with my bow on my pack, but lower it before descending. Small biners on both ends of paracord so one on the bow, the other end on my rappel rope, AWAY from the end. Lowering the bow is easier than putting it on my pack, and makes sure I don’t forget to hook the paracord to rappel line.

Use linesman belt to take weight off my climbing/tree tether/ rappell line and tie an Alpine butterfly. Connect pull down line and cinch point and A.B. come down parallel and don't experience friction issues.

I’ve never had issues with paracord and I’ve used it in hickories, pines and some nasty oaks that I had to redirect…. Maybe it’s where your attaching it? Are you hooking on the end of the eye (or delta link carabiner ect) or behind it?

I don’t even use a biner on the paracord. A simple over hand knot the end of the delta link (or carabiner in your case) and it’ll apply the pressure directly where the rope is girthing the tree. Are you leaving the rubber washer on while you rappel? That could be making it harder as well.

I tie the Alpine butterfly probably 8"-12" depending on tree circumference behind my oval link and this opens the cinch and as I said both the oval link and pull down cord attached to Alpine butterfly come down parallel thus diminishing friction.

I kept my pull down permanently attached to the tether this season. I think being able to unclip has some advantages but I also think I prefer having it attached...1st it's a visual thing...u not gonna forget to send it down when it's right in ur face, 2nd...1 less thing to have to remember to hook up, 3rd... No clip/biner to fail. I got 2 small pieces of Paracord with a ranger ball girth hitched to the tether that hold the figure 8 wrapped pull down. When it's time to go pull the Paracord balls and throw the pull down....it's a little.more tedious/time consuming at the base of the tree but not by much

Where does everyone feel like the best place is to attached the pull down rope? I've tried attaching it right to the link and knot loop. Didn't seem to make much of a different. For me the biggest difference was getting away from the tree and pulling instead of trying to pull straight down at the base of the tree.

I think attaching it to the very end of the link next to where it attaches to the downward leg is best. I base this own leverage. The further you are from that point, the more flex and fight from the rope bending that you’ll receive. I’m not saying it makes a huge difference but I can definitely tell the difference when I hook it behind the link or the eye, then when it’s on the very end.
