What computer browser are you using?

Also operas VPN sucks and it's not really a VPN as it only affects that browser's web traffic. If you really want a VPN is get Express VPN.
I didn't want a VPN, I want a fast computer. Any suggestions?

I had been using Firefox for decades but the latest update filled my memory and slowed my PC to a crawl. I just downloaded Opera and so far I am very pleased. It is quick and memory is mid full. Firefox may be history.

Firefox does this thing where if you don't shut your computer down periodically then it keeps refreshing pages or something and then stores it on your hard drive and slowly fills it up. Shutting down Firefox doesn't help. I saw a fix for it and it didn't work. I use Google Chrome because it works so well in general, but I don't like Google as a company. If I look at something on ebay, for instance, then I start getting emails from random companies for that same item. So, they are very obviously selling my information to other companies.

If the VPN hides my identity, there must be something using that identity to fill my memory. Still low memory usage now while scanning for malware with Roguekiller. Still scanning with 53 detected items with about 95% scanned.

It's not a VPN...it's a glorified proxy server. It does nothing for anything else on your PC that accesses the internet

Restarting firefox by going through the task manager resets the memory usage.

After running through a bunch of virus and malware checkers which found some things and deleted them, my computer memory is still filling when running Opera with the VPN turned off. With it on, the memory stays about 50% full. I can use it that way.

I have been running with the VPN off and my computer memory is stable at 65% full. Maybe deleting the malware finally took effect. The VPN does work. I have been connected through Presque Is. ME and also through Norway. The funny thing is, it seems more responsive through the VPN. I couldn't load the local newpaper with the VPN on. It gave me the message it was not available in Europe.

Didn't say it didn't work, just said it's not a true VPN. It's fine if the only thing that touches the internet is your browser.

Yes. I knew what you meant. Any other app that sends internet traffic will not be VPNed. I was more concerned about usability to post on SH with my memory filling issue.

Just curious, how much RAM on your machine?
4GB. Thanks for guiding me in the right direction to get some malware removed. I think my computer should be good for a while. SH is sometimes slow responding for me as it was a minute ago with the VPN off. I turned the VPN on, and the SH page loaded in one second. Sometimes going the longer route with less traffic must be better than the shorter gridlocked route.

Sounds like you might need a new pc in the next year or so. 4GB ram is almost a collector item now in tech years. Especially if windows comes out with a new OS which we about due for.

Yes. I'm running Windows 7. Planned obsolescence.

You can always to go to some form of Linux/unix :p

Bought my last laptop just before win10 came out so it's usefulness is about done too.

I was running dual boot Linux/Windows on my last PC. Linux was nice but not many apps available. With many browser based applications it may not be too important anymore.

Firefox works fine on my PC now. Thanks, @SNIPERBBB I have Opera set up with many passwords now. I'm liking the VPN. I don't know which to use.
