A buddy and I are going hunting Monday, haven't seen him in years, although we talk frequently. It'll probably be one of the last for me this season, and I'm ok with that. I'm glad it's over, it takes a couple weeks to wind down, seeing the taxidermist helps a little. Then I start remembering the other things in life I enjoy. Eating good again, sitting by the fire, couple drinks for the first time in months, planning trout streams to hit come spring. Merry Christmas and a happy New Year folks!

Back to bodybuilding and fitness. Just cranked out chest day today and 4 miles on 15% treadmill. Feeling like myself again..
We still have a couple of weeks left to hunt but after I will be planning and dreaming about next year.

I don't mind winter. It's the 6th or 7th month of it that really starts getting to me. I did just clean out my Jet to get it ready for snow sledding instead of deer sledding though...

Once deer season ends I try to hunt ducks a little and get some good scouting done for next season. I’ve also recently gotten into off roading/camping with a few buddies. Have a 92 Toyota pickup that I’m slowly outfitting.
I’ll hunt all of January. February I’ll lay low. March I’ll be exploring new places to hunt. April I’ll get new strings. I’m also going to put more time into the EZV sight now that I finally got a 3D target. Outside of that some home projects and some fishing.
Despite having a few more hunts booked, scouting season, shed season, prep season, velvet season…. Deer season never ends baby!
Ohio's ML season is January 7-11 and then back to archery until February 5th. I've shot a couple, have meat in the freezer, but still have a 3rd tag that may go unfilled.

Probably pick up some OT. After the Holidays I’ll probably start scouting and look for some properties to get permission on. If I could luck into a spot in the urban zone I could hunt until the end of January.
Plan on doing some small game hunting, scouting, and fishing.
Small game and trapping till March. Turkeys and spring/summer planting in March/April. Running jugs for cats, pitchin jigs and crappie fishing, working out and practice practice practice. Work on stands. Then fall planting. elk in September and then deer till New Years.
Wash. Rinse. Repeat.
Wash. Rinse. Repeat.
Time for ice fishing and cooking venison.

I have a side business (used to be full time) doing landscape maintenance in the summer that eats up a lot of free time so I squeeze in some mountain bike trips to NW Arkansas in the late winter/spring before it gets busy. Used to do more competitive shooting but now just handgun silhouette. There's a good group that shoots score benchrest nearby that I built a fun gun for but that's a money pit if it gets serious
Spend some much needed and long overdue time with the family.
Nuisance trapping for beavers. I have another week of deer season left beginning the 26th, our new Holiday Hunt then once deer is completely over in my home state, I’ll start scouting out new or the same properties but I try to add a property or public game land or three each season. I also want to get a few grouse and rabbit hunts in and we need some predator control too. I monkey with archery gear, shoot my bow and all that kind of indoor stuff but nothing too formal. You know always have a lot of plans, seeing them through to fruition is a whole other game. Of course there are always all kinds of house projects that can be done .
We still have all of January left so my season is 3/4 of the way done. As Yogi Berra used to say "It ain't over till it's over". When the curtain finally comes down, I will take a week or so and rest, then begin my post season scouting in earnest. I have a half dozen big chunks of public that need to get thoroughly tromped down in my primary hunting area. I also have a 250-acre permission block an hour away that I have been neglecting that I need to go thoroughly scout out and prep some spots in. That will take a couple of days of boots on the ground and several days of actual tree prep work at minimum.
I also plan to get busy finding more local permissions. I picked up a little one nearby this fall it has been nice to just hop over and climb up and hunt. I would love to find a small block of about 40 acres in the city limits that I could preset spots to my heart's content. I can dream, right?
I also have to get back on my exercise program and diet (not for weight loss, but for health).
