What is your go to hunting height?

I agree with the cover aspect. If there is split in the tree with good cover and shootabilty at 15'. Why go to 25 in the open with less shot. Look from the ground and see what's there for a back drop. There is no set rule. As a hunter it's all about adaptability to your surroundings. If the deer aren't moving in the tall tress. You can't not try to get in there because you can't be 20+ feet off the ground.

15 to 18 typically and I try to set up with trees somewhat nearby that also block my silhouette. I dream of a basketball sized hemlock with three inch diameter branches up to about 16 to 18 feet then a nice branchless 6ft. section for me. I still haven't found one. I do like being in conifers where the branches hang down over me a bit too but sadly I don't have many in the areas I hunt where the sign is.

This year I had to hunt lower than I ever have because the foliage stayed on the trees longer than expected and if I had a forked tree I used that every time and it worked great!! But with the saddle it is ALOT easier to go undetected because of the ability to keep the tree in between me and the deer!!! So I have been anywhere from 8' to 25' and I am sure I have been higher just now with the saddle just seems like overkill!!!

15 to 18 is plenty.....if you know how to blend in.....limbs doubles, triples or just plain large trees. Yes, 30 works great in late season but shot angles for archery starts being tough after 20 feet. Also, watching how you setup for most of the deer passing through helps. Height is not the concern if you are very still and are ready

Pre set tree stands anywhere from 18 to 20 ft. Once climbed 30 feet in the summit climber. Run and gun tree stand and saddle depends on the tree and cover so anywhere from 8 ft to 16, depends on the sticks I'm using either 3 stock lone wolfs or 5 cut down lone wolfs.

I usually tend to hunt 18-20 ft. My sticks are 22", with 4 of them and a step up onto my platform, I am at 18 feet. I do have an aider for the bottom 2 sticks if I need to be higher!

I let the situation determine my height. For traditional archery gear I like to be 15-20 foot up. With a compound I prefer to be 20-25. Sometimes lower or higher depending on cover. I sat a couple spots last year with a rifle on the edge of clear cuts. 35-40’ up was pretty awesome. I wouldn’t do it with a bow but it was nice with a rifle.

During the chasing phase of the rut when deer could come from anywhere, I like to be able to see a long way so I usually hunt around 120’ high. On a typical day when I’m hunting transitions or food sources I like to hang around 90’

Only because you want to be more than a stones throw away from your new friends in the burbs.

feet are 18-20 off the ground. I know here is Mississippi some hunt much higher because our deer here are a bunch of geeked out crackheads. This was my first year of saddle hunting and also the first year I have not gotten busted in the tree. The only one that saw me was a doe I shot at and missed, but by the time she looked up at me I was settling the pin on her and now she looks like pepperjack cheese sausage. I loved saddle hunting and found I could get away with alot more movement and no longer had to put my feet at 25 feet off the ground.

Been searching this for a while a "dumb" question, can't seem to find an answer. Lol

When everyone says hunting height, does it refer to height at your feet or your head ?

Thanks

I try to pick trees with good number of branches. Whatever height the "hole" is that allows me enough room to manuver, that's where I stop.....very rare to go over 14-15. Rappel rope is 35 so that's my max. I hunt off the ground in my saddle a lot simply tethered at ground level. The terrain I like to hunt has a low canopy so normally if I climb up 25ft i can't see anything

Depends on the setting. Wherever the back cover is. I killed a bunch of deer between 8 and 10 feet this year.
Now when I have the muzzleloader, slug gun, or rifle I don't worry about back cover as much and climb for the best aight picture.
