What rifle is everyone using?

I live in Illinois where the shotgun is king. I have a mossberg 695 and shoot the lightfield 12 guage rifled slugs that at 100 yards I'd put up against any rifle. In fact, at 100 yards I can hit a soda can 3 times out of 3 times. It's that great of a shotgun. For when I go hog hunting...I borrow my father in law's Remington 30-06 and give them two hits...one hit with the bullet and one hit on the ground.

Now I know a soda can is nothing for some of you 6.5, 30-06, .243, 270 guys shooting match ammo, but I think hitting a soda can is a good shooting no matter what the weapon.

Now, I went and bought a Winchester XPR with the vortex scope in 308. Haven't shot a hog with it yet...need to go hog hunting...maybe during the next saddle shin dig. I also have my mosin nagant in 7.62x54mm...that is a tack driver.

For muzzleloader, I have used my TC Omega .50 that shoots precision bullets and black mag 3 powder...100 grains of BM3 and a 330 grain sabot boattail round.

I haven’t used a rifle yet with the saddle, but I am considering using one this year. If I do, I will use my Remington 710 model 270.

Lots of guys knock them but it's killed a lot of deer. Remington 770 .270. Kinda has some sentimental value, it was the first deer rifle I ever bought. Did some trading about a month ago and picked up a brand new Mossberg Patriot in 30-06, plan to hunt with it some just haven't had the time to get around to finding a scope for it. I don't gun hunt much anymore even though I still enjoy it, nothing compares to run an arrow thru one. Just my opinion

I used to be a “Rifle Snob”. I always said life’s too short to hunt with an ugly gun. About 6 years ago, while in a ladder stand, I put a small ding in a beautiful French walnut stock on my 270. It was an eye opening revelation for me. Yes I love quality, and beauty, but tools for hunting are just that... tools. My walnut, safequeens are all gone and I enjoy hunting more without the worry of bumps and scratches. Both your 770 and Patriot, will kill. No knocks from this recovering walnut adict.

I have an old Remington model 788 in a 243 that has killed well over a hundred deer (damage control permits and deer season). Definitely would fall into the "tool" catagory and not in the good looks. Trigger has a lot of creep but the old gun is actually pretty accurate.

Those 788's were the best cheap rifle made, in their day. I have a couple .308's in that model. They shoot very well.

@fbwguy yeah I used to really enjoy collecting pretty guns, but one day it dawned on me that I didn't hardly use the ones I had. Needless to say I sold them and used that money to buy new hunting gear. I use everything I have I'm not one of these guys that buys guns and collects them in the safe. If I don't see myself using it I don't buy it anymore.

Rock River Arms AR15 coyote rifle. Shot a lot of coyote and a few deer. Most accurate gun I've ever owned. Shot a few sub 1/4" groups at 100 yards with stock ammo. I've sold all of my other guns to fund archery :)

I bought a Henry lone Ranger in 308 last year and like it a lot.I also have a Winchester XPR in 3006 that’s a good gun......but my all out favorite is my Remington 3006 760 pump carbine

I will always be a bow hunter. But nothing gets me more jacked up then getting ready for deer camp for firearms season.

I have been packing a Remington xcr chambered in 300 rum. Absolutely love the round.

Home built ar15 chambered in .224 valkerie for coyotes, the 90 grain vlds really send a message.

Savage 220 for slug zone around home.

Thompson center encore for muzzle loading season.

Well, what are y’all hunting with? I have three that go to the woods. My Mossberg 30-30 is for wet weather days or hunting in thicker stuff. My remington model 7 in 243 was my first deer rifle. As you can tell, it’s been used & abused, but has killed a many of deer & is usually my go to because it’s so light weight. And last is my Winchester model 70 in 270. It goes with me if I’m gonna be hunting the green fields & pastures for longer shots. The 243 is capable of the longer shots but they tend to run off & it’s harder to locate the blood trail on the open fields. The 270 usually drops them or they usually only go a few yards. None of mine are anything special, but they get the job done all the same.

Those look sweet! I shoot a Remington 7600 30.06 pump.

When I gun hunt I'll use my Smith & Wesson bolt action rifle in 270 or my Henry 30-30 lever action. The S & W is over 30 years old and has put down a lot of deer and a few coyotes. When I put the crosshairs on something with that rifle I get the skinning knives ready. The Henry I use sometimes - I killed one of my biggest bucks with that...With the Hornady Lever Evolution bullets its is crazy accurate at 100 yards.....

Browning Mountain titanium bolt 270WSM
Thompson Omega .50 Muzzleloader
Past down from my Dad to me to my son. Winchester Model 94 30/30 The best deer rifle of them all.

Switched from a Remington model 700 in 30-06 to a Browning x bolt 25-06 for Deer and I love it. Also bought a CVA Accura inline 50 cal, killed a doe with it last year.

Last year I used a 300 blackout in an AR platform in a pistol format. I hunt almost exclusively thick woods and swamps so a shorter weapon is preferred for me. I also think a short rifle is ideal in a saddle.

I’m seriously considering purchasing a Ruger American ranch rifle as my next deer rifle. The 16 inch threaded barrel has me jonesing. I am leaning towards the 7.62 x 39 or the 243.
