Whats the price of the WildedgePerch?

Everybody for the past year has been asking for WE to come out with a platform. They finally come up with what looks like an incredible solution, and we crap all over them for pricing.

I am as price sensitive as the next guy but when it comes to a climbing and stand system, my focus was always on being compact. A year ago I agonized over whether or not to use WE Steps or sticks. I heard so many complaints about how hard it was to use the steps, especially compared to sticks. But my focus was singular. I wanted compact. I did not want something that was going to snag on every branch I needed to crawl by to get to my hunting stand. So I initially purchased three steps and tried them out. At first I was like, "this blows". But after fifteen minutes I got the hang of it. I then purchased some more.

Everything I hunt with fits into my backpack. I can walk anywhere for any distance. I carry five steps and two ameristeps that are strung onto one of my steps. That's it. Very light, very compact. I am quiet and I set up fast. My platform may not be perfect, but it is pretty darn close. The Perch, actually may be a significant improvement, if I can be convinced that a platform trumps a ROS. Hopefully, Andrew brings one or two to our Massachusetts Saddlepalooza.

Both the WE Steps and the Perch are manufactured here in the greatest country on the planet, by fellow Americans and fellow hunters. Hell yes I will pay extra for that. I would gladly pay extra for everything I purchase if I knew it was all made here, from materials that were sourced from here. People have every right to not purchase something if they think it is out of their price range. But I think it is very disrespectful for people to jump on this forum and sh*t on the hard working folks who are trying to come up with viable solutions to our challenges. This forum is better than that. It would bother the heck out of me if I was the guy that came up with this solution and then saw some of the negative comments that are now on at least two threads about this subject.

I apologize for being a bit confrontational. Not my style.

Pete

No bleeping way. I was interested but I have hunted plenty from just one of their steps and can't see $147 worth of difference. Cool design though. I probably would have gone for $40 but it looks like I'll be talking to my brother in law the welder in the family.

I can't do it either. I was ready to go at $99 pre-order special. $147 is a big disappointment.
It was like paying for something and waking up the next morning and your wallet is gone with the rest of your $$$. It was worth it I am thinking. Between this and the 50% off Badlands sale, I know I dropped well over a grand in the last 2 days.

Maybe some of the issue was all of the hype leading up to the release and the $99 pre-order / $129 regular price that was floated on these forums.

My expectations were not in line with the $147 price tag.

I do hope, for Andrew's sake that he sells every last one of these though.

I thought it was gonna be $100 bucks, was all set to pre order. My predator platform works just fine for now. Lotta new stuff coming out, maybe prices will come down. I love the design of the perch. I am not going to begrudge anyone preordering or feeling the price is fair, that is what the free market is all about :) Hopefully we get some good videos and reviews soon!!! I may reconsider once I recover from the last 3 months of spending on hunting stuff!

I use the We steps for climbing, so I had to roll the dice and order one. I love my predator, it will have a tough row to hoe to surpass the predator as my first pick platform. Time will tell. If it doesn't live up, the cost will be a bitter pill to swallow. Fingers crossed, I'll let ya'll know.

I would have to give it a try and absolutely love it but would pay the price if I did. I still think it’s going to be tough to get the step tight enough on some trees. I also think keeping it quiet will take repetive applications of someting. I would say it took innovation. It’s a long way from a piece of plywood that won’t sit flat. All that said I converted to steps on a strap and don’t think I will be turning back. I will keep my predator and hand climber for times when they just make sense.

I was actually considering this at one point... don’t understand the whole thing about all of these shows. I guess it’s to get them out there and hype it up so when it hits the website people are ready to pounce. Marketing strategies I assume..... anyone with a little no how can make something very similar to this for about 25$.
Me personally... I got tired of the whole waiting game and when you here all the guys that got one at these shows.. why not make a few available to the guys who don’t make it to the shows...
once again.... just my two cents!

Let's remember that the original estimated price for the Perch was provided by Out on a Limb. He outlined how he determined his pricing in an earlier post on this forum. Now he's partnered with Wildedge to supply them through the Wildedge site, something that makes complete sense given that it needs a stepp to be functional.

The partnership doesn't reduce Out on a Limb's cost nor should it affect what he expects to make from them. It's also not unreasonable to expect Wildedge to make some cut for the marketing as well. For that reason we shouldn't be surprised that there's a price bump given the supply chain to market.

Curious on the manufacturing method used, if it's just straps of aluminum welded together and milled notches then I feel like the price is a little steep. $100 would be more reasonable.

The market will eventually dictate the final price. Each individual is only one data point in the demand curve for a product. The laws of economics will hold, regardless of the good or service being offered.

My prognostication is that there will be no downward change in the price. And that the majority of Stepp users will buy into this platform. And be happy about it.

And is anyone really surprised that the final cost of the perch/Stepp combo versus the predator are within the cost of a cup of coffee? That is not coincidence. If stick users will pay X amount for predator, it is not a leap to think Stepp users will pay X amount for a perch/Stepp combo.

Heck, based on my observations here, most vocal people here are “like a drunken sailor on shore leave during fleet week” when it comes to parting with greenbacks for saddle kit. Right now (post season) we are going to be hearing moaning and groaning. But after people start receiving them and trialing them, there will be a run on the Perch.

And that will not take away from the run on the predator platform. Predator will keep on selling.

And I plan on being one happy user of a perch. Still doesn’t mean I will not get a predator (I have a LW hand climber top I may put up for trade for a gen 2 predator).

We’ll all see how this shakes out over time.

Honestly my number one reason for pulling the trigger on one was simply to support saddlehunting. I will be putting it through its paces however i still feel the predator is the single best platform out there. The price i feel which was around $174 for me due to shipping and state taxes was fair given all the other components like the partnership etc. its American made so there is a premium on that as well.

Honestly speaking saddlehunting is a costly endeavor especially for those who travel far down that rabbit hole. The diy route is a much cheaper way on some things however most if not all the products now being commercially produce have safety components or ratings on them. Most diy does not because they just dont have the facility’s to test them adequately.

Just food for thought especially for alot of the new guys before platforms were created and almost exclusively diy’d you would be paying anywheres of $20-30 for one small plastic step if you could get your hands on one. Also old trophyline saddles have sold for well over $300 used. Lone wolf asassin stands for over $400 for a platform. Many of us have owned and paid obsurd prices for things which has ultimately led us to this day where there are tons of awesome products for less cost in comparison if this market was the same as it was a couple years ago!!

I say the user has to decide for themselves what they are willing to pay. These guys making products for the saddlehunting industry are not making millions and suddenly living the rich life. They have a product that has a market and if shoes were reversed I don’t see how the price would change. No sense arguing over price points who knows it could be a great platform but that is still up for debate. All i can say is thanks to companies like Aerohunter, Tethrd, wildedge and the other guys for helping to grow this style of hunting and bringing exceptional products to us. I love all the options out there!!

I spoke with Matt from Out On A Limb tonight. He used straps, the new manufacturer will be laser cutting the Perch out of flat sheet stock. That is what's driving the higher price. WE has spent big bucks on advertising as well to push the product. Like anything, price will come down over time.
