When the season is over

What do you guys do when deer season is over? In TN it ends Jan 7th. This was my first year back at it in a very long time. However I got a late start. Late on getting equipment (saddle, rifle, bow etc), was hunting public land with no luck. After walking 1.4 miles one way with no luck, I decided to look for a lease. I found out on Thanksgiving that there was about 400 acres with one spot open. There are 5 of us total. Only 3 of us really hunt it. Needless to say my luck hasn't been the greatest this year. Now with the season ending in a few days I'm wondering what I'm gonna do until next year. I suppose I'll squirrel hunt from my saddle lol.

Im sure some of this time will be spent getting the lease ready for next season.

The minute the season closes, I start with enhancement projects around our place and scout public land ever chance I get. Post season is a great time to gather intel for next season. I scout hard until green up. Crappie, turkey and mushrooms will be here soon enough.

If you want a better deer season next year- post season scout. I trap coyotes after season, tis a good way to prevent fawn predation AND an excellent way to get landowner permission to bowhunt.

Spend time with my family is step 1. Then scouting if the snow allows, if not ride snowmobiles. Once tax returns hit business picks up and I'm off to making more money so I can afford to buy more gear that I never knew I needed.

Scouting like hunting is hard time wise with young kids. I do take my oldest with me sometimes, but usually turns into general time in the woods than real scouting. Which I'm perfectly fine with.

Get busy with the pressure cooker, cooking and canning the venison I put in the freezer.

I also do what some guys consider "post" season scouting, but I already consider it "pre"season scouting (we are preparing for next year, right?).

Do some fishing, then that will roll right into spring turkey.

If you spend the offseason on here you will find that we are always working on DIY projects all year to keep you busy.

Post season scouting, area prepping for next year (much easier to do while vegetation is down and things are dead and more open), cam setting, projects, and squirrel hunting which is where I'm going today.

Never thought I would say this but I might take up sewing and I feel like this is probably one of a few manly forums that i would be greatly encouraged to do so and not catch flack. One of the many reasons saddle Hunter.com rocks!!

I’ve still got 2 months to bow hunt, but scouting and hunting squirrels and rabbits. Of course the all important improvements and experimentation for next seasons Saddle adventures. That never ends. I will be working on my carbon fiber insert platform for my Step

Scouting, trying to climb in winter conditions and practice shooting my bow from tree height, try to use aiders to reduce my climbing stepps get my layering system down
