Man. Ask a hundred different saddle guys, you'll get a hundred different answers. I guess my own recommendation is to start with the simplest method that you are most comfortable with. Get the hang of saddle hunting. How to get comfy. How to shoot. How to move around the tree, etc. etc. That's enough to tackle at first. Don't make it twice as hard to start by starting a brand new climbing method you've never tried.
Some guys love spurs but that takes some practice. I would stick to the simple methods: climbing sticks, strap on steps, screw in steps, or treehopper bolts.
Then, you can move on to more advanced climbing methods later: SRT, DRT, Aider, Knaider, Swaider, Spurs, etc. etc. etc.
