The application period ended on Sunday.
I had 4 points so unless something really changes, I should have no trouble drawing for zone 4. They don't announce the results until July.
We made the 1,900 mile (round trip) drive last month and prepped 9 trees on private land. We got some really exciting set-ups.
Anyone else going to Iowa this year?

Bought my first so 4 or 5 years to go. Do you have a lease @Allegheny Tom ? First time out or do you go every 4 yrs or so

It's not exactly a lease per se. We have about a dozen or so guys that rotate according to who has the points to be drawn. We usually have 4 or 5 guys going out each year. We have an arrangement with a farmer for our group to hunt the properties that they own or that they lease for farming. We get a 10 day hunt and lodging, but otherwise, it's a diy hunt...no guides (which I don't want anyway) and we do all our own food. We are the only bowhunters on these farms so we aren't hunting properties that have been already pounded by others. This will be my 3rd trip with this arrangement, but sadly, probably the last. The farmer passed away and his widow is kinda morphing the arrangement. I assume that by the time I can get drawn again, the entire deal will have fallen apart. I intend on continuing acquiring points, but beyond this year's hunt, I have no idea what the future holds for Iowa.
Points are stupid expensive now. When we 1st started going out, points were $10 each. Now, they are ~ $65.
Licenses are pricey also. By the time a guy buys 3 or 4 points, and pays for all the associated tags and permits, it's pushing $900 for a license. Ouch!

Thanks for the info.. as they say all good things come to an end.. bummer

In 2010 we bought a farm in SE Iowa. In October of 2018 we moved here and built a house/shop. We are in the middle of nowhere on the side of a hill above the North Fabius River. Its a busy day if we see 10 vehicles go by. A great place to be in these times. We love it here.

The deer hunting is awesome. The turkey hunting is good but they outsmarted me this year.

We have deer around the house every night. Our garden and all the trees we planted have fences around them to keep the deer and other critters out.

Did I mention that we love in here in Iowa !!!

Very nice place!
How many acres?
I always say if I was 30 years younger, I would move to Iowa. There's just something about that state that calls to me.

We have 63 acres. I am very fortunate to have great neighbors that that allow me to hunt their ground. There is also some awesome public ground about 10 miles from our house that gets very little pressure during archery season.... especially during the week. I am looking forward to using my saddle hunting gear this year. Here is a couple more pictures.

Hunted public before, it was the best hunting of my life, and I didn't even have a shot opportunity. Came close a few times on some nice bucks. Went in blind with no pre scouting except online. The terrain, the quality of bucks, the possibility of seeing a mega giant at anytime made it a deer hunters paradise. This year, I am fortunate to be hunting private ground. Hitting Buffalo County Wisconsin on my way back home....it will likely be the best two weeks of my life no matter how it turns out

I’m jealous!!! I grew up in the mountains of Colorado and I would move to Iowa in a second.

I got 4 places in mind between zone 4 and 5, got 3-4 years to go so just leisure research for now. Kind of a crap shoot to decide which will be good I guess, all of it is better than Florida though, looking forward to the adventure, 140” or bust!
